 | So what would be a good way to acknowledge this in a newsgroup devoted to divination? Why, consult the OGHAM, of course!
Of course, there is the 20 tree Ogham and the 25 tree ogham. Some people use cards, and some use sticks (or fids). Everyone has their own idea of what spreads to use. Everyone has their own idea of what type of questions should be asked. And everyone will read the fids differently anyhow.
So how about the classic three fid spread of past, present, and future? And the situation in Iraq is certainly a top worry for many people. I used 20 fids. This was my draw...
Past: Gort - Ivy - G Present: Eded - Aspen - E Future: Luis - Rowan - L
G: In his book on Celtic Wisdom, Carl McColman has this to say about the meaning of Ivy: "Ivy is aggressive, persistent, difficult to destroy, and can be dangerous." That has certainly been the case with Iraq in the past. (And maybe the present and future?) Ivy is also seen as the symbol of persistence.
E: The tree that endures and overcomes obstacles. But is the Ogham referring to the USA or the Iraq militents? Aspen could apply equally to both, as could Ivy. As could the next tree.
L: Spiritual protection. Hmmmm....if yesterday's Inaugural speech was any indication, Bush trusts in God. So too does the Iraq Opposition. The Iraq people caught in the middle have little but spiritual [rotection to rely anyhow. As if the best the Ogham could come up with for those unfortunates was "hang in there and endure, trusting in your Higher Power".
But drawing Rowan on the first day of the Celtic Tree Month of the Rowan gives some hope that things will get better, one way or the other.
