Lycari rolled onto his back and lay without opening his eyes. He was
comfortable and warm and finally rested. It was a feeling he hadn't had for
a number of days now and he didn't want it to stop. Drowsily, he flopped
his arms over his head, stretched and yawned. The ever-present headache
that had kept him company for at least a day now seemed to be gone.
Reluctantly he opened his eyes and found the room filled with morning light.
Then he remembered where and why he was there.

Astarte had been injured and he had healed her. She wasn't in the room, so
she had slept elsewhere. He was still in his clothes from the night
efore --- he never slept dressed --- but someone had been thoughtful enough
to remove his boots and throw a blanket over him. He was debating whether
or not to undress and have his clothes cleaned when a maid poked her head in
the door.

"Sir?" she asked politely. "A horse from the stable has requested that we
take your clothing for cleaning and bring you a breakfast." She didn't even
blink an eye when she said this; it was as if horses asked these things on a
regular basis.

Slightly bemused, Lycari answered, "Certainly, just give me a minute,
please?"

The maid smiled and the door closed. Lycari pulled off his shirt and pants,
lay them on a chair near the door and wrapped a spare blanket around
himself.

:Sim?: he sent, :you were monitoring me?:

:Yes. Mage slept like dead.:

The shifter grunted a laugh at the worry present in her thoughts. :Thank you
Sim.:

Contact faded with a feeling of welcome relief. The maid stuck her head in
again and noticed the clothing draped over the chair. She ducked her head
to Lycari, who stood at the window cocooned in his blanket.

"Breakfast will be up soon, sir, and we'll have these ready for you in a
half an hour." She beamed proudly. "We have a mage who does cleaning for
us."

"Wonderful," Lycari remarked.

Her arms full of his buckskins, the maid left and Lycari sat on the bedside
at a loss for anything better to do.

Robin smiled drowsily as Figment's mind-voice said, :So. I leave you alone
for a short while and look what happens. You were supposed to be sleeping.:

:I am sleeping.:

:Yeah. Now. But not alone. How was your first time?:

:It's not my first time.: There was a hint of annoyance in Robin's tone and
Figment snorted.

:I don't count anything that lasts less than three minutes.:

Robin's eyes came open as he sputtered indignantly.

"Room service," called a familier voice, and Astarte gave Lycari's door a
kick. She caught it on her hip as it attempted to bounce back and eased the
full tray though the door.

"I appropriated it off the maid," she said, then laughed as she took in
Lycari's blanket. "Sorry," she said. "Didn't realise you, ah..." She
giggled again and put the tray down on the table.

"I'll come back later. Ought to go and wake the boss up anyway." She
backed out of the door, giving herself time for a good look at what little
wasn't covered by the blanket. She grinned and pulled the door to behind
her.

"I must be getting to my duties, Master Bard," said the kitchen maid as she
trailed a finger down Robin's chest. "Will you stay the night here again
this evening?"

Robin smiled at the comely little maid in his bed. "I don't know yet. It
will depend on what my teacher at the college has to say." His eyes suddenly
widened. "Mage Trey! The college! I'm late!"

Figment snickered in his mind.

Astarte knocked on the door, and called to Robin.

"You've got about two minutes to dress otherwise you'll be late.
Breakfast's on the table downstairs." Her sharp ears caught too much
frantic scrabbling for one person, so she grabbed the handle and opened the
door.

She surveyed the sight and grinned. "At least you have a good reason for
sleeping in," she quipped and shut the door. Out in the corridor, she
indulged herself with another giggle, sure that the whole floor would hear
her.

"Two in one morning," she said, addressing herself skyward. "I'm on a
roll!"
