I've created an ecommerce site which is not generating many sales.
Any feedback on my site would be gladly appreciated...

looks like a template from templatemonster.com - has a needlessley big
header/navigation which stops people at lower resolutions (800x600) from
seeing lots of product on page load... looks bog standard really

sorry

Site looks good....no a complete list by any means...just some
suggestions....

Get some flyers and mail out.....try affiliate linking.....try
emailing to approved lists......the bottom line is to get traffic to
the site as google search engines take a while.....

Search engines require content, they live and feed off of it and the
more you have static pages mixed with some dynamic (ie. newsletter, a
review of a certain product, about the maker, room layouts - Sears
catalogue style, etc) the more the site will be picked up on the
keywords for the search engines to munch on....

Also, if you can, add additional payment options by looking at some
alternative payment options which are e-wallet or direct payment and
other global payment options as you can take on the additional risks.

Enjoy!

Hi,

How much traffic are you getting to the site? Your Google page-rank
appears to be 0/10 so I would suggest working on this first.... getting
links to your site from as many suitable sites as you can, perhaps
taking out some careful paid advertising, or the google adwords scheme?
Had a quick look at your code and you appear to have no meta tags
(keywords, description) so you will want to put those in too. Get some
informative textual content on the site too, maybe an introduction
paragraph on each page. Google needs to know what the site is about, and
this is a good way to do it. e.g. "Welcome to blah blah - we provide
blah blah blah etc."

Once you increase traffic you should be able to work out your conversion
ratio (i.e. how many visitors you need for one order) and this should
help with any marketing you do, working out where to take out
advertising and so on.

Good luck!

page rank isnt being updated and it currently only contributes a tiny
portion of whats required for successful site placement, many sites with
zero pagerank are appearing above phigh pagerank sites

no search engines use META tags except yahoo which some believe uses the
description tag, so again this is useless.

use adwords keyphrase checker to see competitive terms and also include
associated phrases (from the right hand list) in your sites content as this
helps google identify your site with your industry - then use h1/2/3 tags,
anchor text, page link text, strong text etc to provide emphasis to your
main target key term

with jewellery its 100 - 1, i have to get 100 hits before a sale... which i
believe is quite high for internet sites?

Can you give examples? Page rank is very important.

It is still a good idea to have these in place. It takes only a few
minutes to do.

yes but current pagerank stats are misleading because googles not updating
it for 3 months at a time.
