Just saw the stack on the ABC. It took place when the team was performing
the Barrel Roll and the Number 5 has to come screaming up behind them and "
slot in". ( You know the one we've all seen it). Well it looks like he got
it real wrong a clipped Number 6. They were inverted at the point of
impact. Number 6 got out real quick but number 5 started to an out of
control spin. He ejected quite low. Looks like he had a bit much speed
coming into the formation and was way out to his right. IMHO.

That video is just an animation...bit of a leap at this stage.

Channel 9 had an animation, whereas 10 had video shot from the ground by a
RAAF team member. Not bad coverage, except he tended to follow the
team and missed the ejection.

I'm still waiting for my server to show all the fcuk'n messages (damn that
was hard to type) - was this the animation or the video.

I can post the video later if needed.

Ah, I've caught up now Dave. Just about always a bit of video these days
isn't there?

A USN friend of mine was once the CO Blue Angels, and I remember him saying
that they occasionally swapped paint. A Hornet was probably a bit tougher,
and no rotating bits to get in the way.

Too true. I've seen the interplane shots from the Angels, that must
take an outstanding amount of concentration and skill to pull off safely
every time.

Sometimes I scare myself when driving home on autopilot after a long day,
pulling up in the driveway thinking "how did I get here ?"

Oh don't I know that feeling. Out driving somewhere today
and I went through a speed camera (60) that I go through
literally every day (usually at 40-50Km/h). Got 500m down
the road and thought "How did I get here?". No memory
of the last 500m whatsoever.

Ah well, I probably did it at 40 on autopilot, but we'll
see what the postman brings :-/

According to the ABC, it was at 1000'.

Yep, very low. 0/60(ft/kts) ejection seat did the job. Given the impact
occured at only a few thousand feet and he probably spent a little while
checking for controlability, then a second to set himself for punching
out - not a lot of time left.

The news I saw said that one of them made it back to the airfield, & one
ejected.

The video is showing on the news here in UK at the moment. Looks like
it captured what happened in some detail.
