I have been buying orion media from salesmart for little over 2 years now. Been flawless so far. So hardly nasty media.
His orion gloss ones are the cheapest going in oz which plays in everything under the sun.
Have a look at pcx who sell a gloss ink jet surface disk. They sell the 4x gloss for $2.80 and a 8x gloss for $3.00 per pop. Orion gloss are half that.
I have used 300 of the new orion 8x with two failed burns which was not the medias fault because I had a power failure which ended the burn early:(
Before that used orion 4x, 2x and 1x and has been flawless so far, touch wood.

I tried early Orion media which was just rebadged Princo so I won't go there again, however I haven't seen anyone else list the ext 109 which I'm interested in.

That was media of two years ago. A lot has changed since then. The current Orion DVD-R media is NOT made by Princo or Ritek/RiDATA.
I do have some RiDATA media that I bought in mid last year. I made the terrible mistake of buying in DVD+R/+RW media which I will never buy in again as its to slow moving and does not play in anywhere near the number of DVD players as DVD-R media does.
Media is constantly changing. Because I sell to so many DVD Authoring businesses across Australia I am constantly testing newer batches of DVD media from different sources. If tests go well then I order media in. If tests go bad I look elsewhere.
I have been selling DVD media since January 2002 and have a large database of customers and DVD Authoring businesses I sell to. I have to keep these customers happy so I don't lose sales. Its why I only sell certain media and certain hardware.
For hardware I like the Pioneer DVD burners. Since selling these from the Pioneer DVR-A04 through to the latest I've yet to see a single drive require warranty work uisng Pioneer firmware which is great for me as it means I do not need to go back and forth between suppliers getting these replaced under warranty which is great for my line of work.
I also sell the LG DVD burners for PC's and have been selling these since the LG 4082B drives came out last year. No customer complaints with these either.
From time to time I do get new customers that have only ever burnt to CDR media. DVD burning is different. Certains things the ustomer needs to know about which is why I have a support page.
The latest updated pages have valuable information on how to get Audio DVD's to play on a DVD player using DVD-R/+R media. So no need to buy a DVD Audio player to play Audio DVD's on. All part of my customer service.

Sorry but don't ever post who my suppliers are. I've spent thousands on finding what is good and what is not so good for media and hardware and accessories over the years that I have been in business.
My customers are happy with my media and with my support and that is all that matters. Its why you will never see my customers complain about me in any news group or anywhere else over the years I've been in business. Its because I give fantastic support to my customers.
Anyway have a great evening.

I wasn't happy to find out that the so-called premium quality, premium priced Orion discs were just plain old Princo. If I had of known that originally I wouldn't have purchased, hence I won't buy blanks from you again.
Win some loose some with media I guess, however if the ext 109 price compares well with other retailers when it comes into stock I'm looking to get one.

I've bought his princos of 18 months ago. Back then they were good. Media changes and he has moved with the times to media that records and plays well.
Surely the question should be, did those media you buy have playback problems or did they play back flawlessly.
Shintaro brand used to buy princo but now they use cmc. The early shintaro was good too.
I bought some princo recently myself and they are not the same disk that they were a couple of years ago. The princos I purchased at salesmart still play back today as do the early shintaros that I bought at jb hifi. The newest princos have to many play back flaws in them.
He has been selling media for 3 years and I would have thought we would have heard by others if there was a problem with orion media. Same applies with shintaro from jb.

At the time of burning I got a few duds which I just put down to one of those things (which it still may be). However it wasn't until someone in this group posted at a later time that Orion were actually Princo that I even bothered to check for myself.
I had problems with some Princo discs beforehand which is why I tried the Orion, needless to say if I knew they were Princo too I wouldn't have based on my own experience. Once burned, I'm twice shy of giving retailers another go when there are many alternatives.

I'm only talking about my experience, read into it what you like. And it's only because this thread went this way that I even mentioned anything, all I wanted to know was a price.....

The only *Dud* DVD media for me has been the Orion 2x RW discs. After a few burns they do not format again or give errors during a burn or pixilation during playback. But then who cares as Collin gave them to me anyway to try - hence he doesn't stock them anymore.
I have bought over 250 Orion 4x and 8x discs from Collin and some have been burned for over 2 years now and still play faultlessly. The only times I have had a "Drink Coaster" is when I have stuffed it all by myself. I *will not* use anything besides these Orion discs or a Pioneer burner as I am having a fantastic run.
Regards TT
PS hey Collin remember me and a discount next order :-)) Only kidding ;-)

When they were released I don't think I was calling them anything but un branded which they were back then.
Did you get thermal printable (smooth glassy surface) or are they the next batch which are white ink jet printable.
I often email out to customers to see how they are going in the first week and a month or so later.
I've not heard any negative feedback from those until your post. These were the best disc made for stand alone Panasonic DMR Recorders. Pity Princo stopped making them. Media changes have seen me move between many makers since then.
Before I buy in huge amounts of DVD media I first get samples sent to me which I test for about a month. I send soem samples off to the authoring businesses I sell to and they do their own testing along with my testing. Then if all goes well I place a order for that batch of media.
It is a very expensive execise constantly making sure media has not changed by constantly buying in samples. Some makers send out free samples and some I have to pay for.
The current 8X I have been selling since July of 2004 which have sold well and as customers keep on coming back for more I must be doing something right.
Soem dealers want to know who I buy from. They seem to think I should do all the testing and hand over this information for free. Its to expensive to do that. My main selling items are DVD media, cases, DVD Burners and looking into a new area of Digital set top boxes which I am currently testing and if they pass my high standards I will then be selling them.

They were the inkjet printable ones and my Panasonic is where they got used up in the end, although that's not why I wanted them.
I'm not interested in who you buy from, I do like to know what I'm buying though. Yeah I had some duds, whether it was the machines I was using for playback or the media I'm not sure, my point is I wouldn't have purchased if I knew beforehand for the very reason I had had Princo problems earlier.
You said your customers were happy, I wasn't. No big deal, but as I said I won't buy media from you again.

No, I read the lot but only quoted the relevant section to my reply.
However since you make a point of it, how does the amount of burns you have done, on different media mind you, in any way change things for me or the 100 I purchased? It doesn't, hence I didn't quote it.

They are not crap media. If they were I would have folded years ago and there would have been customers complaining in here and everywhere else.
I've been selling DVD-R media since January of 2002 which is 3 years now. I sell to many DVD Authoring businesses across Australia and as they keep on coming back for more then I'm obviously doing something right.
You are entitled to your opion but as you have never bought from me or ever tried these discs so I am not sure why you are taking this stance.
> >You seem to have trouble understanding the question? Who makes Orioble >DVD-R media?
No problem understanding the question. The supplier I buy from makes them. Suggest you source your own own suppliers like I have had to do. It is a expensive exercise finding out what is good or not so good.
Like hardware media is constantly changing. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Its a matter of keeping track and constantly getting in samples before each order and hope for the best. So far I have had good success.
I don't mind rival dealers such as yourself have a go at me. Its all good, brings customers to my web site which often results in extra sales. I've had a few extra sale orders today as a result of this thread.

Yes you still have a problem understanding the question, now I will explain to you like a two year old as it seems this is all you can understand.
1. Your suppiler does not make Orioble media, he sells it to you but he doesnt make it. 2. Which OEM makes it? Do you know the Manufacturer ID or is it as well all suspect, el crapo PRINCO?

Hahaha, rival dealer, oh please you are simple...as for your web site, yes its a A grade commence site!

and he never lists his prices in any post because he wants to drag you to his website such as his dvd cases which he has at $125/100 I will check with my supplier I am pretty sure he has em at $60/100. I know i can get full size slim (5mm) DVD cases at $30/100. and as for his blank DVDs prices shit I can get OEM 8X printable at $32/50 last time I bought em which was a while ago and suspect they would be cheaper now. What the hell I am gonna drop in on my supplier this week and I will post a price list
and always be sure that whenever you reply to any of his posts to remove any mention his website address.

I've been posting prices for months. Go have a look in this or any other commercial post.
>because he wants to drag you to his website >such as his dvd cases which he has at $125/100 >I will check with my supplier I am pretty sure he >has em at $60/100. I know i can get full size >slim (5mm) DVD cases at $30/100.
Not all DVD cases are the same. If they were life would be easier. The cases I buy in are not the cheapest. They are a thicker plastic, have a different way of getting the discs out of and not requiring to bend the media.
The DVD cases I get in are about 13mm to 15mm thick. They have brochure clips in them and can be made a single case with the slip in feature.
>and as for his blank DVDs prices shit I can get OEM >8X printable at $32/50 last time I bought em
Different brands, different quality. Not all media is the same. I can get dirt cheap media in as well, but I would lose my customers and I am not prepared to do that.
>which was a while ago and suspect they would be >cheaper now. What the hell I am gonna drop in >on my supplier this week and I will post a price list
You can do what ever you like because I don't buy those cases.

You need to go to OPSM and get your eyes looked at. sm has posted prices many times, just not with the ex drive. Hardly cause for this reaction.

This makes more sense, you are a rival store trying to discredit sm for your own ends. How about you post the store you belong too?

I come back after a year away and the first post I read from him DIDN'T have any prices. I just felt he needed a reminder.
BTW I am not a "store" nor rival, I am a computer consultant/software engineer and it is only that I know my equipment supplier also has these things that I mentioned that I would post his price list.
You are right however I should have mentioned that I am in the computer industry and that I have a vested interest in trying to keep the industry open and less subject to the "cowboy" tag!

What does that have to do with anything? You can't even post in the same message group which tells me you are just brown nosing yourself for attention.

A consultant that is to chicken to post his details and just so happens to have access to wholesale prices. Yeah right, likely story.

Salesmart is hardly a cowboy. They have been around for longer than I can remember. Colin from sm has often helped others that have posted quieries into this and other groups.

Are you kidding? You obviously don't have a DVD Audio player and proper 5.1 set up or you would not bother trying to copy DVD Audio to DVD-R/+R. Why would you downgrade high fidelity DVD Audio to compressed audio for DVD Video? Maybe all you are doing is copying the bonus DVD Video compatible audio? Maybe you can explain?

No he is not. He gave me this program last year and it does the job nicely. Ended up registering it. I transfer wav, mp3 to the dvd-r discs that I buy from him. There is no compression or loss of audio quality. I can import ac3 5.1ch just fine with no loss of quality. Not bad for a $50 program.
I am rapt.

Sorry, he mentioned there's no need to buy a DVD Audio player which is not true because you can't play DVD Audio (MLP or uncompressed 5.1 PCM) on a DVD Video only player.

Then I am doing the impossible. I have done about 30 through it and the quality is supurb. No quality loss and able to get 40 hours of audio onto a dvd.

The difference between Dolby compressed and DVD Audio is quite noticable. Rip and burn till your hearts content, you aren't convincing me that you can copy uncompressed DVD Audio to DVD Video without loss.

Is english your second language?
I will word it a little better.
I can import ac3 5.1ch or ac3 2ch files and then export to a dvd disk with no quality loss of audio.

I am sorry to say am that in this case ON2DVD is quite correct. AC3 or DD5.1 or DD2.0 *are* lossy compression systems. Yes you can copy them to disc without any further loss of quality *BUT* it is not DVD-Audio which you require a DVD-A player to decode which is up to 6ch of 24bit 96kHz encoded with MLP (Meridian Lossless Packaging). The need for compression is that otherwise the bitstream would exceed the DVD standard.
So basically you are making DVD-Video Audio discs *similar* to DVD-A discs but that is not what they are. These are starting to be referred to as DVD+Audio.
Confused yet? It is certainly easy to be as there is a lot happening at the moment.
To help you understand the differences a little more here is a simple way. Talk bitrates. CD is 1411 kbps (kilo bits per sec) which is 16 bits x 44.1kHz x 2 channel uncompressed. DD5.1 is usually 448kbps (lossy compression they throw bits of information away to achieve it). 2 channel 24/96 is 4608kbps (which I use on my discs) and the DVD-V standard from memory is 9.6mbps (9600kbps) so 6ch of 24/96 would exceed it by large margin so therefore *you can't* do it you need a *lossless* compression system and MLP is used.
Have a look here http://www.digitalaudioguide.com/faq/dvd-audio/faq_2.htm
Any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Why not? I copy them! I like my copilation discs.
> Why would you > downgrade high fidelity DVD Audio to compressed audio for DVD Video?
My turn now. Are you kidding? Do you understand anything about these formats at all or how they work? A DVD-V is quite capable of storing 2 channel 24bit 96kHz or192kHz LPCM bitstream. These are then called DAD or HDDA and I have seen the term coined DVD+Audio as well. So a DVD-A disc can be uncompressed and stored in either format on a DVD-/+R disc. BTW I also convert SACD to 24/96 as well (after I have down mixed it from 32/96)

No.
