Anyone been to see this as yet? Alot of mixed reviews for it, and I can't
imagine it being heaps better than Daredevil.

Initial reviews from the US are bad, as in catowman bad.

Its trailer does it no favours - I cringe every time I see it.

If the news reaches him in his living room, you have a drama.

Big surprise.

It's certainly better than Catwoman.

But still far from being watchable.

Despite the horrible script, the film might have been passable in the hands
of someone other than former X-Files director Rob Bowman. The guy has made
some great hours of television, but he seems to treat Elektra as though it's
episodic television. Based on Bowmans shot composition, one would assume
people only exist from the shoulders on up.

Watch the film if only for the horrible virginity metaphor that becomes
painfully obvious by the end of the film.

A 'virginity metaphor' is that like a 'sanity clause' :-)

Elektra is another super-hero(ine) movie based on a comic book (Marvel), and
does a good job of it, I assume - having never seen the book.
Elektra herself (Jennifer Garner) is a well-built formidable type, right
from the start, so no point trying to be a mousy Patience Phillips
("Catwoman"); she is also a contract killer, but doesn't make mistake of
Vincent in "Collateral", of being chatty and not cautious enough.
While not immortal, Elektra does have extra-ordinary ability, working
along the balance line between good-and-evil, a dichotomy seemingly
inevitable in American movies. As we all know, there are the good guys and
the bad guys - and it was only some rare authors, eg. crime thriller writer
Edgar Wallace, who claimed the difference is usually not all that much.
Elektra has a similarity to The Shadow in that the past returns to haunt
her; there are bad dreams, flash-backs, etc. She is not the only
super-endowed in the film; look out for Stick, Tattoo, and Typhoid, for
example.
The film holds your interest, and there's a degree of suspense as we
wonder how it will end - though assume Elektra will emerge unscathed at the
end. (Or there can't be a sequel.)
The plot, special effects, acting, are all effective, and blend in.
Seems Asians are Hollywood's current villains (TA:WP), but then we have to
have someone; though the criminal gang, "The Hand", is rather composite.
While not a chick-flick in the normal sense, this film should appeal to
female fans, as it has a few tender moments, of a romantic, and maternal,
kind.

Whatever gets you thru the night Don but there are other movies out there
beside these shite examples of Hollywood 'C' grade schlock. I'm qualifying
this by saying that I'm a huge comic and Marvel fan and quite partial to
comic book adaptations but is this all there is my friend :-)

I'm not one to go see a movie cos I'm supposed to like it. But I'm happy
enough to go along with much of Hollywood's nonsense. Elektra is OK as
blockbuster superheroines go.
I recently managed to buy DVD of "The Station Agent", and look forward to
seeing "Shaolin Soccer" on DVD.
Someone recently wanted to see "Blade Runner", but it's not yet out on DVD
according to one store, but "should be better than the original" when
released. I've now got "Duel" on DVD.
Today I'm going to see the latest Jim Carrey movie with some relatives....
I recommend any of Akira Kurosawa's films (Yojimbo; Sanjuro; Hidden
Fortress, Seven Samurai) now selling on DVD; likewise the Jaques Tati
collection (Mon Oncle; M.Hulot's Holiday; Jour de Fete; Playtime).
There's a collection of old movies "10 films for 10 dollars"; grouped by
genre; on sale (eg. HMV); on 4 x DVDs in each combo. I bought the Alfred
Hitchcock packet; also Cartoon Classics (Bugs Bunny and friends).

Did she have powers in Daredevil?

I don't know if they changed anything but in this movie
I get the feeling they gave her powers.

She gets a precognition of sorts - saying any more would probably be a
spoiler but it's a pretty minor change IMO. I thought it was
definitely better than Daredevil (and not just because Ben Affleck was
NOT in it) and I enjoyed it but it wasn't great - considerably lighter
than many of the stories from the comics.
