My child was riding her electric scooter (one of the push to start . 16 k
top speed) on the footpath while I was walking with her, she was wearing a
helmet and is allowed by our local laws to ride a bike/scooter on footpath
when with adult.
My plod pulls up and says to me that the riding of powered scooter is
illegal, they don't comply , just then senior citizen goes past in his
gopher/scooter buggy (the vehcile disabled and old people get around in) at
running pace, I point this out to Mr plod that senior citizens vehcile is
also illegal according to the reasons he just gave me and what about
electric wheel chairs?. Told me I was a trouble maker and said he would send
me a breach notice in the mail ( didn't know they could still do that)
Question is: what is a leagl vehcile and where can certain vehciles / toys
be used ??

What ticket did they issue you with?

under my understanding, and this came from the highway boss that also covers
coot was that

most electric scooters were legal, only the petrol ones were restricted, and
needed to be a registered under the roads and transport registration act

id suggest, when you get the ticket go to the local area command and speak
with the highway sergeant about it, as i think its entered in error it
should be cancelled.

What is legal, is what the bacon wants to be on the day as u found
out.
where can they be used, motorbike clubs. or your driveway, this is the
big dummy spit the other day in the paper with 1000's sold, and
basically worthless.

There is this condition that is typified by the lack of insight.......
I had no idea that that would yield such results.

I think I need to employ the use of IK's tennis ball and brick wall...Is it
available, IK?

*shrug* If electric scooters somehow make parenting easier than pedal powered
scooters, why not just buy the kid a chair to sit in without moving anywhere
and be done with it?

You can't explain it to a non-parent. Kids have status problems too ya know.

My six yr old grandson entered a competition (well, his mum did) in a
toyshop and got an electric scooter in the mail. He's the kewlest kid on the
block now.

well...u do, its called the lounge
equipped with an xbox
the kid will sit for hours playing various destroyem games which are
quite socially acceptable

woe betide thee who get outside for some fun!
soon you will not be allowed to run and kick the footy as this behaviour
constitutes a danger to pedestrians

only them with a lifetime of service to the state will be allowed
electric veagles, provided they comply and are registered

recently myself and others built an electric veagle for an old mate who
does not walk too well...using an old forklift motor and 48V of battery

it looks like an ordinary (largish) shoprider thing with flash
fibreglass covers, but boy does it fly!

there is a 'speed limited' and 'full out' setting on the controller so
it can run all day as 'required by regulation', but on 'full out' it
does about 80 kmh, does a decent burnout and WILL flip if accelerated
too hard

inboard discs on rear (from KH100), suspension (indep front, live rear
on 4 link with panhard bar), electric assist steering (modified Renault
10 rack with chain drive motor and home made controller)...senior
citizen with attitude!

luckily in QLD, if registered already (the 'original' vehicle that is)it
does not require further inspection...cos as soon as you take its covers
off it is obviously not a factory machine of any sort

so if your daughter waits till she is 60, and has $10000 to spare, she
can have an electric scooter to die for...and can use it wherever she
likes...in shopping centres, public places, footpaths, roadways etc.,
no-one will bother to check

Lucky you didn't get done for terrorism ... I hear Osama
Bin Laden has been spotted on a scooter.

*shrug* find out from the RTA if plod has a case, if he
doesn't giggle your way to Magistrate's Court.

In NSW, the RTA say "These rules state that the motorised wheelchairs (3
and 4 wheeled) used as a mobility aid that cannot travel over 10 km per
hour have been defined as a pedestrian.", so it looks like they are
_not_ going to class a 2 wheeled scooter in with an electric wheelchair
or one of thos old people billycarts...

If you search for "wheelchair" or "scooter" on the www.rta.nsw.gov.au
website there's a bunch of links ti pfd files, presumably one of them
will answer your question...

At that point you should told him he was the trouble maker and challenged
him to a duel.
Cops send tickets in the mail when they don't have their ticket book on
them. In some cases they can't be arsed and you never get a ticket.

Welcome to the law. When I was in court (in NSW), the Judge said that 'those
scooters" (whatever definition that inplies) are illegal. He did however let
the guy off his ticket because he agreed the law is confusing and it was
reasonable to expect that a regular person might not know it (I thought
ignorance was not an excuse?). Anyway, the day I was there the guy got off,
so if you do get a ticket, go to court, take your kid, look all nice and
humble and you'll proably get off too.

If you were not riding it he can not breach you.

How old is your child?

Perhaps your child is too young to be breached?

Tell the cop to get stuffed.

Things have changed somewhat in Victoria. Under our new laws, your
daughter was busted.
