Anyone know why the 2 "M" sets on Sector 1 are moving to Sector 2 from 7th
February?

Is a infrastructure problem or just a political exercise?

How long does it take to qualify a crew for the M Sets?

I'd go with the latter - all the others are running on the western lines
already.

I think it's more of a case that not enough Mortdale / Waterfall
drivers are qualified for them. Makes sense to keep them all in one
Sector where you can concentrate on training the drivers for them.

As I understand it, it was more the case that NO Illawarra based
drivers and guards were qualified to work the two trains. It was
necessary to bring in crews from other Sectors, oftern at considerable
expense. In addition, these "foreign" crews were not qualified to
work the Waterfall-Helensburgh section, so each "foreign" crew had to
be piloted over this section - at additional cost.

Until such time as Illawarra crews are qualified in these sets, the
decision is the correct one.

The fact that they ended up in Sector 1 when there was insufficient
crews to work them was a political exercise in the first place.

The Political directive to get a few 'token' units on the Bondi Junction
- Cronulla/Waterfall run has probably 'expired' and now a small about of
sensible rostering about to happen - run the train sets where crews are
qualified to operate them....

Thanks for that. I knew that crews from Campbelltown had to travel to
Waterfall
by taxi to commence the service that started from their each morning.

Not quite. I think that you will find that the driver came from
Campbelltown, but the guard came frm Blacktown - officially by train.

There are/were jobs rostered to go by taxi to prep and by taxi after
stabling.

why dont they buy some cars and have drivers for them to shuttle drivers
around at a cheaper expense rather than outsource the work yet again...

mmmm I wouldn't mind doing that sorta job....shuttle drivers around at
$20per hour..even at $12.50 per hr which is the average would be acceptable.
Would have to be cheaper than $20 per couple of km.

Firstly, where do you live? That hourly rate has to also pay all
costs for the acquisition and operation of your motor vehicle, all
insurances including public liability, on call, etc.. Excluding "dead
mileage" to the pick-up and after the set down ... Waiting around
.... No thanks!

With 3 drivers needed just for 1 car, sick pay, holiday pay, long service,
etc.
