Baby hurt in fall from platform

January 15, 2005

A BABY boy suffered serious head injuries at a NSW south coast railway
station when he fell from his pram and wedged between a train and the
platform.

Police said a 40-year-old man was stepping off the train at about 9pm
(AEDT) yesterday pushing the pram when it tipped forward and the
4-month-old slipped out and fell between the train doorway and the
platform of Fairy Meadow station.

The man then became stuck in the gap while trying to save the baby
before people alerted the train driver.

The baby was treated at the scene by ambulance officers before being
taken to Wollongong Hospital with a fractured skull and suspected
spinal injuries.

He was later airlifted to Sydney Children's Hospital in a serious
condition.

Sydney police said the Department of Community Services and Wollongong
detectives were investigating.

(Why would DOCs be investigating??)

You know it makes sense.

Could be that the man involved was under influence of alcohol or other
substances whilst in charge of the baby?

There was a short mention of the matter in the Sunday Telecrap and it said
that the man (the father) was under the influence.

Gee I hope the baby will be ok.Having a 1 year old son and seeing him grow
from birth to now and they are so precious. Its always safety first anywhere
with children especially on public/private transport.

Yet the number of stupid things i've seen done with (occupied) prams -
paticularly prams being pushed out into traffic while the pusher stops and
watches the road...

Some people must really believe that babies project invulnerablity auras.
