New titles and some restocks from Capital Transport.

Note: The pick of the titles MUST be "London's Secret Tubes!" But there are
also two titles to mark the 50th anniversary of the much loved London
Routemasters.

$60.00 - The Birth of the Routemaster - hard bound, 96 pages, mostly black
and white illustrations, but some colour. In summer 1954 the first
Routemaster was completed at London Transport's Chiswick Works. At the
beginning of 2004, in a very different world, Routemasters were still
providing excellent service in London.

$24.00 - The Circle Line - 80 pages, soft bound, black and white
illustrations. The name Circle Line did not appear on the Underground map
until 1949, having made an appearance as a line distinguished from the
Metropolitan and District lines two years earlier, when the term Inner
Circle was still being used.

$36.00 - Dorset Steam - Scenes from the Fifties and Sixties - 72 page, soft
bound, all well captioned all colour photo album. Using top quality colour
transparencies this evocative album portrays steam scenes from the Fifties
and Sixties in the county of Dorset.

$36.00 - Hampshire Steam - Scenes from the Fifties and Sixties - 80 page,
soft bound, all well captioned all colour photo album. In the 1950s and for
much of the 1960s Hampshire was a happy hunting ground for steam fans. The
rich variety of steam traction to be found in the county is recorded in this
beautifully assembled album.

$36.00 - Kent Steam - Scenes from the Fifties and Sixties - 80 page, soft
bound, all well captioned, all colour photo album. Using top quality colour
transparencies this evocative album portrays steam scenes from the Fifties
and Sixties in the county of Kent.

$68.00 - London's Historic Railway Stations - A reprint and update of Sir
John Betjeman's famous book - hard covered, 112 pages, many illustrations,
some of the recent ones in colour. The first edition of this book was
published in 1972 and the text was accompanied by the beautiful
architectural photography of John Gay. This edition makes use of the same
archive and, in addition, shows the stations as they are today.

$100.00 - London's Local Railways - hard bound, 464 pages, reprint and
update of a mid '70s title from a different publisher. Starting with the
London & Greenwich, the capital's first railway, and working clockwise
around London, this book deals with the history of a total of 48 lines, some
of which are no longer in use and others that have greatly changed in
character over the years.

$100.00 - London's Secret Tubes - Hard bound with dust jacket, 190 pages.
Well illustrated with some photos in colour. Built underground for strategic
purposes between the 1930s and the 1960s, a substantial number of tunnels
exist under London streets and buildings that few people know about. This
book tells the story of these subterranean structures, separating fact from
fiction with the help of considerable new research. Some of the coverage
includes uses of abandoned or not yet completed tube projects, deep level
shelters, telephone cable tubes and industrial use of unused tunnels -
including the Plessey factory and its tramway (and a reproduction of a map
that the Germans issued to bomber crews showing how to find the Ilford
factory!)

$36.00 - London Steam - Scenes from the Fifties and Sixties - 80 page, soft
bound, all well captioned all colour photo album. Most of the country's
principle rail routes radiated from London and these carried famous crack
express trains like the 'Flying Scotsman', 'Caledonian' and the all-Pullman
'Bournemouth Belle'. London also had a dense network of steam operated
suburban routes.

$100.00 - The London Trolleybus Vol. 2: 1946-1962 - hard bound with colour
jacket, 216 pages, with many black and white illustrations. Trolleybuses
first came to London in a small way, being introduced in 1931 by London
United Tramways. When the Second World War brought development to a halt,
London Transport had an operational fleet of 1,671 trolleybuses - by far the
largest fleet in the world. Ken Blacker wrote the very first Capital
Transport book 'Trolleybus' in 1975 and has now produced this very detailed
definitive second volume of the history of the system

$32.00 - The London Underground: A Diagrammatic History - Large fold out
annotated diagram in colour. This diagram gives dates of all lines and
station openings, closures and any changes of name and locations. Lines are
shown in their familiar colours. Paperback concertina folding map.

$52.00 - No Ned to Ask: Early Maps of London's Underground Railways -
hardbound, 80 pages. All maps in colour.

$40.00 - The Spread of London's Underground - hard bound, 2004 second
edition, all colour, 32 pages. This book uses a design of the Underground
map based on today's style, edited to show the growth and development of the
system at the end of each ten year period. Each map is accompanied by text
showing all opening, closing and re-naming dates.

$36.00 - Surrey Steam - Scenes from the Fifties and Sixties - 80 page, soft
bound, all well captioned all colour photo album. Despite its modest size
and the early electrification of many routes, the county of Surrey continued
to offer enthusiasts a wide selection of steam operated lines well into the
1960s. Using work by some of the most accomplished railway photographers,
this evocative album looks back at the final ten years or so of the steam
era.

$36.00 - Sus Steam - Scenes from the Fifties and Sixties - 80 page, soft
bound, all well captioned all colour photo album. The picturesque county of
Sus was served by a comprehensive railway system with a wide variety of
routes ranging from the fast and famous Brighton Line to the tranquil
backwaters such as the 'Cuckoo' and Midhurst lines. This album looks at the
rich variety of steam traction which was active during the last ten years of
Sus steam.

$24.00 - The Victoria Line - soft bound, 80 pages, many colour
illustrations. A 2004 new edition of another title in this well known series
of line histories.

$60.00 - Working with Routemasters - hard bound, 80 pages, mostly colour
illustrations. With the help of a few people who have been part of the last
fifty years of the Routemaster, who have compiled this, a celebration of
those years.
