"First suicide from tallest bridge", From correspondents in Millau, France, The Australian On-line January 14, 2005
POLICE in southern France have reported the first suicide from the Millau viaduct, the world's tallest bridge, after finding the body of a man at the base of one of its seven pillars.
The man, who was not immediately identified, apparently abandoned his car on the bridge before climbing over the side rail and jumping to his death.
The viaduct, inaugurated on December 14 by French President Jacques Chirac, is 2.46km long and carries drivers 270m above the River Tarn.
At its highest point, the bridge designed by British architect Norman Foster soars to 343m." [Courtesy: Agence France-Presse from The Australian Breaking News @ 2100 hours on 14 January 2005 - http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,11942187%255E1702,00.html ]
Letters to the Editor: It's Greek for nowhere, The Australian 15 January 2005
"FRANK Devine's apology for God (The Wry Side, 14/1) trots out the usual sophistries about the deity's mysterious ways. Brushing aside Phillip Jensen's nonsense about God having used the Indian Ocean tsunami as a warning against mankind's sinful ways, Devine asserts: "God's best alibi... is that his accusers underrate and trivialise his actual powers when they charge him with such one-off crimes... To assert case by case knowledge of the plans and motives of such a being is decidedly presumptuous."
By using such legal terms as "alibi", "crimes" and "case", Devine seems to be implying God was elsewhere at the time of the tsunami - hardly a Catholic Christian notion of God's omnipresence and immanence, but presumably intended to link up with his later reference to the conversion of the former atheist philosopher Antony Flew to belief in a non-interventionist deity.
Where Devine's and all other attempts to justify God's ways to humanity fall down is accounting for what theologians call "natural evil" - i.e., all the horrors of this life that can't be blamed on sinful mankind, from such natural disasters as the earthquake and tsunami to disease. If God is omniscient, omnipotent and all-loving, how can he allow such things to be?
All the attempts to deal with this problem as compatible with God's goodness are cant, the last resort of apologists being appeals to the inscrutable Divine Will, or to the feeble inadequacy of our understanding of God's purposes, or, in Devine's words, to "acceptance of insoluble mystery".
Flew's non-interventionist Grand Designer is just a cop-out. When asked whether or not he was an atheist, the late Sir Kingsley Amis replied: "Well yes, but it's more that I hate him". If God existed, it would be necessary to hate him. I don't hate God: I just think he exists only in utopia - which is Greek for 'nowhere'." "China's Plan to Build a Freeway to Taiwan May Be a Bridge Too Far", Catherine Armitage, China Correspondent "In China, they say, everything is political, so China's technocrats have at last hit upon an engineering project that achieves a perfect match between political and technological ambition: a freeway from the mainland to Taipei.
No matter that they are now separated by a treacheros 160km-wide channel, or that politically, the two sides are so far apart that they can't even agree to talk about how to send ordinary mail to each other.
China's Communications Minister, Zhang Chunxian sad this week that a $US300 billion ($395 billion), 20-year plan for 85,000km of new Chineses highway would include a raod to Taipei. Mr Zhang said, 'a certain means of transport or other projects', could be adopted to link the expressways of the two places.
The world's longest undersea tunnel today is 54km, linking the Japanese islands of Honshu and Hokkaido. The longest bridge, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is in Louisiana in the US, at 38.4km.
The rationale for the road is to improve logistics to help Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland lower costs, sharpen competative edges and upgrade living conditions, said Mr Zhang. But the Taiwanese were quick to dismiss the idea as 'meaningless propaganda', and downright dangerous.
The strong Japan Current, marine trenches in the Taiwan Strait and frequent typhoons and earthquakes meant major casualties could not be ruled out, cabinet spokesman Chen Chi-mai said. 'As there are insurmountable technical difficulties and ... a high degree of danger--there is a strong tone of political propaganda.' he said.
Politically, too, the project is likely to be a bridge too far. Mr Zhang said the so-called 'three direct links' between Taiwan and the mainland of mail, shipping and air transport were a prerequisite to the road link. But talks on even those links have been bogged down for years. Recently, China said it was ready to consider non-stop charter flights between the mainland and Taiwan for the Spring Festival in early February, the most important family holiday of the year.
But progess is stalled because Taipei wants official talks, while China says only 'airlines and airline associations' need to be involved.
For the 2003 Spring Festival, planes flew between Taiwan and China for the first time since 1949, but they had to stop over in Hong Kong. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council chairman Joseph Wu explained Taiwan's position in an interview with The Australian last year: for many direct flights, Taiwan's military 'don't have time to identify whether the incoming vehicle has any hostile intent.'
China regards Taiwan, where the fleeing Chinese Nationalist Party set up government in 1947 after losing to the communists on the mainland, as part of its territory, to be reunited by force if necessary." "Qolon" wrote in message news:... Divine,
I read an interesting comment from Frank D[e]vine using as his [cue], a comment from Paul Stenhouse a Catholic priest and journalist who edits the Catholic Journal Annals Australasia [Opinion, The Australian 4 January 2004, p 11]
"Paul Stenhouse reminded us of this in an article in The Australian on January 4 in which he quoted the Hebrew prophet Isaiah: 'God's ways are not our ways; nor are his thoughts our thoughts.'
Belief in God requires acceptance of insoluble mystery. Believers see no alternative. Nor any longer does Antony Flew, a renowned British philosopher and probably the most influential atheist of his generation. A few months ago, at the age of 81, Flew caused an intellectual tsunami by renouncing atheism and declaring himself a deist. He had concluded that the complexity of the universe defied naturalistic explanation.
In particular, Flew said, 'the findings of 50 years of DNA research have provided a new and enormously powerful argument' for the existence of a universal design.
Flew's belief is in a non-interventionist, Aristotelian God (philosophical forerunner of Aquinas's First Cause). He says he does not believe in 'the God of any revelatory system - although I am open to that'. Like Isaiah, he dismisses the possibility of penetrating the mind of the universal designer.
Accepting insoluble mystery does not deter believers from probing. On the contrary. Not long ago, another eminent philosopher, an Australian, wishing benevolently to put a crimp in my Catholic complacency, asked: 'What if the universe is unaware of our existence?'
Though I managed only flummoxed muttering at the time, I've been encouraged since to put higher value on our advanced self-awareness. Conceivably it's unique in the universe. Who knows?
Christians believe that the gift of self-awareness obliges them to strive beyond self, initially towards one another, in an effort to understand God and his universe better. That's much easier said than done. I think the tsunami jolted thousands of us into making an attempt." [© 2005 The Australian 14 January 2005, Frank D[e]vine, 'Engulfed by disaster, we reach beyond ourselves', The Wry Side http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,11932930%255E31501,00.html ]
As you see below, a claim to Christian belief is not only a claim made that Jesus of Nazareth is the manifested form and substance of Godhead as First Cause {ie. 22/7 as chronological, mathematical, taxonomical and cosmological consideration related to its embodiment or form} but an actual acquaintance with the psyche and persona of Jesus of Nazareth: "After readying your body as well as your surroundings for an encounter with G-d also, you're to 'realize Whom you are directing your prayers to, what you're asking of Him, and how to address Him'. (In fact, we're advised to direct our heart toward G-d when we fulfill *any* mitzvah, not just that of praying.)
For if you don't do all that and merely recite the Hebrew words as if you were somehow engaging in a fetching mystical incantation rather than asking G-d Himself for help, you wouldn't be praying to Him so much as muttering to yourself. Besides, 'prayers themselves are like a body, while your concentrations upon them is like a soul', we're told. 'So when you pray with your tongue but you're really preoccupied with other things, your prayer is a body without a soul', which is to say that 'your body is there but your heart is elsewhere'." This inner notion of soul as the Protestant Scholastic view of the Greek/Latin Term 'Telos' may be represented mathematically as that which accounts for form in Aristotelian psychology is held by the scholastics, as the soul. In the basic philosophical sense of inner telos, or guiding form, the entelecheia is that which mediates between matter {Nature contains Nature} and form {Nature rejoices in its Nature}, potency {Nature surmounts Nature} and actuality {Nature amended in its Nature}. The matter or substance of a thing, as such, conveys the essence of the thing (essentia; ousia) as only potentiality, whereas the form, as considered in itself as actuality, requires embodiment. The actualisation of the thing, the union of matter and form in development and occurrence, the movement from potency to act, rests upon the inner telos, the inward principle of self-realisation; the motive force of the development is kinesis or metabole, the activity or transition from potency to actuality.
As I said on 4 January 2005 that if you get no further understanding from a preliminary observation of the [Grapple] paradigm [Shown here ], than to understand that it is not only the basis for much of Christian tradition, but the reason for a continuing obscurity as realm of mystery--That claims to religious belief as promulgated recently by Paul Stenhouse as being established upon such negated foundations--is indistinguishable from vain mysticism {ie. muttering to yourself}.
Postscript 15 January 2005 -- A fuller quote from my 4 January 2005 post would be: "This insensate (ie. metempirical paradigm which is outside sense perception) perspective of human action and phenomenon of nature suggests to me, that unlike any other event with which I am acqainted, [the tsunami] has the potential to irreparably damage the religious psyche and generate longer-term religious turmoil--it is necessary therefore to take steps to inhibit that process.
If you get no further understanding from a preliminary observation of the paradigm below, than to understand that it is not only the basis for much of Christian tradition, but the reason for a continuing obscurity as realm of mystery--That claims to religious belief as promulgated recently by Paul Stenhouse as a Catholic priest and journalist who edits the Catholic Journal Annals Australisia [Opinion, The Australian 4 January 2004, p 11] is being established upon such negated foundations--indistinguishable from vain mysticism. That attempts to provide flattering and self-serving rationalisations concerning the suffering of humanity and God's control of the world, ignores the obvious--the insensate acts of nature are but a drop in the ocean when compared to the incalculable human misery perpetuated by the very organisation to which Stenhouse belongs and fails to give accountability, as presumptions made of divine nature.
....
In questioning the conduct of ecclesiastics concerning their lack of pre-conception/prescience of the disasterous event, I am doing so in relation to a mathematical / chronological model as overlay of space/time and the mechanism by which the course of nature can be observed (perhaps even predicted), Governance undertaken to achieve mastery of values, leadership, change and thereby enabling transformation of chaos into the equilibrium of cosmos and provide an appropriate and tational anchor for religious life.
The lack of willingness to discourse these issues in a reasoned way and a recognition that many of these belief systems (including Christian and particularly Roman Catholic) are unreasoned and vain mysticism, has in the past resulted not only in the most grievous instances of public abuses by Australians as anti-religious and lapsed-religious fanaticism." [End of 4 January 2005 Quote]
[Note: 15 January 2005 Breaking News item @ 1332 hrs indicates an Australian Man was killed at home flying Nazi flag: "Queensland police are asking for public help to catch a gunman who killed a man outside his Nazi flag-draped home. The 42-year-old victim died about 12.15am (AEST) 14 January 2005 in coastal Agnes Waters, near the Town of 1770 in central Queensland. The dead man's Avocado Drive house is well known locally because it is hung with Nazi swastikas and other white supremacist paraphernalia. Police believe the gunman may have fled the scene and headed toward the Gold Coast. Members of the public are urged to be on the look out for a white 1990 Holden Berlina with the registration number 786 GUS. The gunman, in his 50s, has been described as 180cm tall and of thin build, with a medium complexion, hazel eyes and auburn hair. Police warned people not to approach the man as he could be armed with a rifle, but to contact them immediately. The deceased man was shot outside his home, but friends who woke to the sound of an argument and gunshot, did not have a phone so drove him to nearby Murphy Road to call an ambulance. He died before ambulance officers arrived at the scene. While Nazi swastikas adorn the dead man's home, police did not believe there was a white supremacist link to the shooting today." It ought to be possible for you, as you claim a 'Divine' nature and as microcosmic empathy with the world soul, to not simply to read of events within tonight's news or tomorrow's newspaper and pass comment as hindsight upon world events so described, but to delve into the realm of foreconception/prescience as the counsel of the Almighty so as to put words together and speak of things before they come into reality as being--And I don't want to read about somewhere of some bridge swaying so violently as to be temporarily closed.
Why don't you demonstrate your claim to a religious life and put silence to your critics by reaching within and putting words to premonition before it comes to being within the world: "Now there was a day when the sons of God-'elohiym (the mind) came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan {ie. opponent, the arch enemy of good:-adversary, Satan, withstand} came also among them.
And the LORD said unto Satan, 'Whence comest thou?'
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, 'From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.'
And the LORD said unto Satan, 'Hast thou considered my servant Job {where's my father}, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?'
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, 'Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.'
And the LORD said unto Satan, 'Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.'" [Job 1:6-12].

No - I've been attempting to tell you that if you want people to read and respond favourably to what you post, then you need to post something that is actually coherent and parsable.
It is quite clear, however, that you do not want people to understand you.
QOLON NOTE: The word non-sequitur comes from Latin!
Your argument is non-sequitur because the Natural, Regulative, Metempirical and Jurisprudent philosophy as the Religious / Political principles of autonomous governance to which the English language finds its origins as esoteric foundational principles are purveyed by a historical dependency upon the Latin, Greek and Hebrew languages as sacred.
Apparently there is no other valid solution as cosmological compliant model to the theological consideration of the 'basic elements-stoicheion of the cosmos-kosmos' [Colossians 2:8, 20], apart from Sabbath based equation Telos ('achariyth) = Arch (re'shiyth) + c² : Genesis/Arch as (22/7) 3W1D ... Jubilee & Torah @ Sinai as 50J + 12 x 6J as 'oth 294 year cycle + 3W1D = 6,000 (122J3W1D) years as Saturday 1 January 2000 + solar eclipse on 25 December 2000 + 6 days = Telos.
Being itself a derivative from the Greek word steicho (to range in regular line) and as Arche is the Causeless Cause and the Unmoved Mover of Aristotle, and also the (Monadikos) of Plotinus.
It is beyond time and therefore there is no 'beginning'. It is the eternally present 'I am'. It is the First Principle, the undifferentiated unity of being. It is the Source of which nothing can be said but from which everything emanates. Time is its creation therefore it is timeless.
"Beware lest anyone should cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the the basic principles-stoicheion of the world-kosmos, and not according to Christ. For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in him, who is the head of all principality-ARCHE {

That is 22/7 as chronological, mathematical, taxonomical and cosmological consideration related to its embodiment or form:
"the image {Heb: KO INR; cf: IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDAEORVM as Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews [Matthew 27:37; Mark 15:26; John 19:19; Luke 23:38] from the Latin: I (#9) N (#50) R (#80) = 139 % 81 = #58} of (Heb: ADNI) with the three signs of the name. [Colossians 2:8-10]
Is your acquaintance with the Latin language the result of a Catholic academic and theological experience.
I find Roman Catholics and other Sunday Sabbatarian Christians to be particularly stubborn in acquiescing to the view that they as an aberration of the sacred edict and in the absence of a valid biblical based cosmology, have neither a monopoly on grace, nor do they have a prerogative upon Christianity to the exclusion or sub-ordination of seventh-day Sabbath keepers: "Do we then make void the law-nomos through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law-nomos." [Romans 3:31]

wrote in message news:pan.2005.01.11.09.55.17.194990@TRACKER... No - I expect you, like all persons who want their writings to be understood, to use standard modern English rather than obfuscating English.
The standard that has always governed the writing of clear, concise English prose, is that if there be two ways to say the same thing, then the way which uses fewer long words is to be preferred.
Eloquent English prose, unlike eloquent Latin prose, has always preferred short words over long words.

QOLON NOTE: Israel,
Thank-you for your past appreciation and comprehension of my discussions on esoteric subject matter.
As I've said previously, I make no apologies for my abstruse {ie. Difficult to understand; esoteric; hidden--a sonorous or high-flown, grandiloquent comment} argument as it relates to the Natural, Regulative, Metempirical and Jurisprudent philosophy as the Religious / Political principles of autonomous governance to which the English language finds its origins as esoteric foundational principles purveyed by a historical dependency upon the Latin, Greek and Hebrew languages as sacred.
As further affirmation Israel responded, "Fair enough." ["israel t" Tuesday, January 11, 2005 9:11 PM news:87llb0xogg.fsf@kafka.homenet...]
As you've obscurely said before "Subtle and with merit." ["israel t" 31 Dec 2004 13:26:54 news:87vfajtd3j.fsf@kafka.homenet...]
On the converse, it seems especially evident amongst the "myopic zeal" of New Zealanders which demands not only that one writes in english for dummies, but that the lack of comprehension of the Tree of Life by fools, is a virtue to be admired and praised.
