To qualify this a little more: All Revit licenses should be on subscription. As such you can download the latest version for free. If you have someone with an older version that's not on subscription, they can download the latest one and use it for 60 days in trial mode. All point releases can co-exist on the same machine so you don't have to upgrade older projects to the latest version.
So updating Revit to a later version is easy enough to eliminate the need to save project files to older versions.
