The Once and Future Church - Today, too many people get lost in church and are only
getting a surface skimming of the Word of God.
(Acts 20:27 - Teach the Whole Councel (will) of God, verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter.)
They are not able to recognize the systematic design of the composite whole:
Every verse impacts, and is impacted by, every other verse.
Every verse reveals something about Christ.
A Workman Approved
Gone are the days when a Christian could be a spectator to other peoples' ministry.
God is calling every believer to play a role in the gathering, nurturing and teaching
of others "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does
not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15).
You are a workman with God. But every workman needs tools. The main tool you have been
given is the "word of truth". The word of God is described as a sword (Ephesians 6:17),
but a sword needs to be handled properly.
When correctly handled, the word of God is anointed by the Holy Spirit to do a deep work
in a person's life (Hebrews 4:12). But before you can teach the living word of God, you
must first allow that word to do a work in your own life. We can only truly teach what
has become real for ourselves.
