I have a sequence of pictures stored in BMP files. I want to use a video
coder to compress them. Could you please tell me where I can find one to
process these BMP-formated files? Thanks.

Convert the pictures to an AVI video with something like bmp2avi [1].
Then use VirtualDub [2] to compress it.
