(PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT)

Irish Research Council for Science Engineering and Technology - Embark
Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme 2005 - Deadline 25th February 2005

The Embark Initiative has announced that the preliminary stage of the
postdoctoral fellowship call is now open.
The Embark Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme will offer funding over two
years
to researchers at an early stage of their career who plan to complete
postdoctoral level research in the sciences, engineering or technology.

The Scheme is designed to empower researchers at an early stage of
their
research career to build upon their PhD work and to benefit from the
experience of established research teams. It is also targeted at
developing
the country's international reputation as an important location in
which to
carry out world class research, so that Ireland retains and attracts
the
highest level R&D capabilities for the future.
The Terms and Conditions are available for download now. A PDF copy of
the
application form is available to allow applicants to prepare the
information
required when the Online Application System goes live. This system is
currently undergoing the final stages of testing.
The scheme, in its third year, will invest a total of over EUR3 million
into
the Irish research sector and will be open to researchers from all
nations
planning to commence their first postdoctoral research position in the
sciences, engineering or technology, at an Irish research institution
in
October 2005.
Up to 40 individual awards will be made available (duration two years)
with
EUR33,000 (plus all social costs) available in the first year and
second
year, plus appropriate expenses of EUR5,000 each year. Applications
will be
subject to equal assessment, strictly on merit, by an international
assessment committee.
The deadline for receipt of applications will be 5pm Friday 25th
February
2005.
