Beginning of a thread. What do you think of newsgroups? Are they useful?

I think newsgroups are great! I know they can easily be abused, but
what not be abused? Using newsgroups people can share ideas and
discuss issues, at a distance, that would otherwise be impossible. We
can also use Usenet newsgroups in an educational context: distance
education courses, class discussions, etc.

one for a class at college. From what I have saw and read so far they
seem to be okay.
