Hi,

Some years ago a friend designed a logo for my software using a font I now
discovered is called "Mata Regular". I am trying to update the artwork (I
only have a bitmap image), but do not have the font on my computer.
I found some sites selling the font in US$, but for me, in Brazil, it is
very expensive, with the current exchange rate...

Does anyone know of a substitute that is free and can be downloaded
somewhere?

Any help is apreciated!

It is available free at http://www.usenet-replayer.com

Go to the search page and enter: mata ttf and it will be the first
result.

Hi Niels,

I ran a search in MyFonts and found nothing under Mata Regular. My hunch is
that Mata is an "indie font"--that is, designed by an independent studio or
individual artist. Which means it may exist among untold thousands of cheap
knock-offs.

Just "Mata" will find it, it's published by T26:
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/t26/mata/

Since it was used on the Smashing Pumpkins single "1979", there are a couple knock-offs to be
found. Try Googling:

Hi,

I found the 1979 font through Google and it will do fine!

Thanks a lot!

Niels
