 | hi, the attachment part (beginning with '[--') as well as the
pgp-gpg-signed part isn't colored anymore! the same .muttrc on another
host with the same system (debian unstable) works fine!
where else is mutt looking for settings (/etc/Muttrc is also the same on
both hosts)?

yes - /etc/Muttrc, $HOME/.muttrc -
and *sourced* files, too, of course.
besides:
$ export COLORTERM=whatever; mutt
