Nice thread, I was just about to ask the same question. Even though I still find this solution clumsy as it duplicates data (once in the keyring and once in the muttrc) and complicates setup while mutt has all the functionality to read keyrings anyway, it's probably the best available. Just use the script referenced in another post here, and source the result in your muttrc. No problems with automated editing in your main muttrc like this.
