 | Hi,
I have a list of contacts which I send updates regularly. This list has recently increased.
In the alias section of my .muttrc I have set up a group in an external file :
source ~/emailing/clients.txt
clients.txt looks like :
alias clients , \ my@client.ca, \ ... If clients.txt is too long (it is almost 1500 contacts), Mutt complains and returns an error at startup.
Moreover (and presumably as a consequence), if I try to email this group of recipients, the Bcc: line ends before the list of recepients is complete.
So, does anybody have an experience of mass emailing with Mutt that he or she would share with me?
I have been thinking of cutting my clients.txt file into several smaller files, until it becomes accepted by Mutt, but I find it not very satisfying.
Many thanks in advance, -- Sébastien Mengin www.luxediteur.com

We could tell you - but then we'd have to kill you.

I'm not a writer. We are publisher (luxediteur.com, as mentionned in my signature of my original post...). And yes: we have approx 1500 contacts who want to get updates about our work.

Wouldn't a mailing list manager do better than plain MUA? I would setup ezmlm list for this kinda job. That way you also ease out the delivery management and archival.

Yes, you're right. I'm studying Mailman and Eoc (http://liw.iki.fi/liw/eoc/).

Yep. RSS is on the way on our website.

We are not here to promote new tools.
Email newsletter is, at least in the network we work in, still accurate and efficient.
Nevertheless, you're right: would be better that they are free of what and when... we will offer both RSS and email newsletter as soon as possible.

Yes. Use a real mailing list manager. I like Mailman, personally. Users can manage their own subscriptions with it then.

You could create the mail put it in a file, then do:
$SENDMAIL -t < file
If you use Mutt to compose the mail, and postpone it, remove the
From you@yourdomain.net Wed Jan 19 17:56:09 2005
....at the top before running the command. $SENDMAIL will add its own.
