 | We produce printing plates for letterpress printing. Because of the large ink gain inherent to letterpress, digital typefaces often appear too bold on the press. I am searching for a quick routine (or several different routines, depending on the press) to reduce the stroke weight of typefaces--in effect making them more spindly--so that they appear the correct weight on the press. We're just trying to keep yesterday's technology apace with the times.
I understand that applying a reverse trap could possibly accomplish this effect. We currently use Xitron Navigator v. 6 and I wonder if adding the Trapworks plugin could solve our problem with heavy type. We output many plates from InDesign, which does have application-based trapping, but I'd imaging in-RIP trapping would be more sophisticated, right? Does anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish thinner type easily? I also wonder if Trapworks Lite could accomplish what we need...?
Thanks for any feedback! Harold

 | This would be an option for native InDesign documents, but not for EPS or PDF files placed into InDesign. So ideally, we'd like to avoid manual stroking to be most flexible.
Thanks, Harold

 | Ask Xitron.

Does Indesign allow you to stroke the type? If so, then experiment with varying amounts of white stroke to the type. I have used this successfully in Illustrator.
