 | I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, I am blind and also use a screen reader, and I frequently used the computer while I'm on the telephone. Most of the time, I do not want those on the other end of the telephone to hear my screen reader, but sometimes when I am demonstrating the screen reader, I do want the people on the telephone to hear the computer as well as me.
So, I am trying to find a computer/telephone switching system that will allow me to do all of the following:
- switch between talking on the telephone and talking to the computer, preferably with a hardware switch.
- allow me to hear both phone conversation and the computer at the same time.
- give me the option of allowing people on the telephone to hear my computer.
The Andrea PCTI does almost all of this. I would have to do a little bit of interesting wiring to give me the option of hearing both phone conversation and computer simultaneously without the people on the phone hearing the computer. I think I have figured out how this can be done, and it would only require the moving of a plug from one jack to another (if I don't want to buy another switch) to control who hears the computer.
I am disappointed to read in this newsgroup that at least one participant believes the Andrea PCTI is not reliably quiet. I wonder if this is the case in all circumstances, or if it is possible that it may work well in my environment. Or, I wonder if anybody has any other ideas about how I can achieve my objectives.
