 | I'm trying to get onto irc from my Apple using my PC as a host, and I've
gotten to the point where I can get the bash prompt up and run some
programs. I have 2 terminal emulation programs (DAK and Access //) on
floppy, and have attempted to use ZLINK and Kermit-65 without success
(the latter is horribly unstable on my system).
I'm looking for something I can blast onto a disk and run, get enough
VT100 for links and epic at the very least to run correctly.
Anyone know such a program that can point me to an image?

You might want to have a look at AGATE:
http://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Collections/SkunkWorks/Communications/AGATE.SHK
It does ANSI emulation with IBM graphics (what most BBSes back in the day
needed), but that might be close enough to VT100 for your needs. It needs a
128K IIe or better to run (since it uses DHR graphics to render text).

No disk images available but you can buy ProTerm online. It should
handle what you need. Search the news group for other posts regarding this.

Speaking of emulation, I duped your problem of the hard drives not showing
up in robowin. I haven't solved it but I know you're not crazy. I may be
though.
Maybe jolt cola will help solve it but I might have to delve into windows
innards.

Nice to know someone thinks I'm not crazy, although my

Back on topic, Modem Manager says it supports vt100 but I haven't gotten
vt100 emulation to work with the DOS 3.3 version. I might try the
ProDOS version later.

Do a bit of googling and you'lllikely find the ProTerm 3.1 demo
available... it won't do file transfers, but it'll probably do what you
need. The full version is only $20 and worth every penny IMHO.

| Sort of on this subject, I *really* have troubles with .SDK images.
The main .sdk image is of course Modem MGR, which I have never got
working on my 64K //e.
This is what I do to transfer it to my Apple:
1) Download onto linux box.
2) run nulib 3.25 on the files:
$./nulib xd mmgrfile.sdk [where file = install or whatever]
it creates MMGRFILE.33.SDK (note uppercase).
^^ i am confused at this point as to why it creates an SDK file when it
is supposed to make a .DSK or a .PO file according to rubywands FAQ.
All of the images used are 66K or under, and nulib converts them into
140k files (sounds right to me).
3) Anyhoo, I rename the files to .DSK and:
4) pop them (the 3 dsk files - install, util, program) onto a floppy disk
5) put disk in old dos 486 laptop with serial connection and ADT on it.
adt the disk images over to the apple. That works fine.
6) reboot the apple with the newly created disk. The disks either hang
the system (the floppy continually seeks the disk), or the thing borks
into the monitor.
No clue where to go from here.
Any help as usual to help out a slightly silly feeling individual would
be greatly appreciated.

That's because they're PO and ADT expects them to be DO (different
sector order).

He is taken care of. I converted all of the .SDK images to .DO,
and renamed them .DSK. Tested all in emulation and all work.
He should now be able to transfer them via ADT and set it up.
If anyone else wants these I would be happy to email them in

You're doing it the hard way (and getting .po disk images which
ADT can't handle, as Moll points out).
You should simply transfer the .sdk _file_ (using a terminal program)
to your Apple II, then use ShrinkIt on your Apple II to convert it back
to a physical disk.
If you don't yet have a file transfer setup working between your PC
and your Apple II, that should be your first priority.
If you need to make your current setup work to get there, then
there are programs for the PC that will convert ProDOS order to
DOS order and vice versa.
However, there are .dsk images of comm setups for the Apple II
available that ADT can handle perfectly well. See Rubywand's FAQ
site for more details.

to find it on asimov.

I use ADT to transfer between pc and - haven't I answered this priority.
I do have an additional step because I need to use my DOS based laptop
to actually use ADT - the linux ADT version didn't work for me.

I can convert them to .DSK images for you. Just need to know
whether you want DOS or ProDOS images. Email me with a valid
