 | Hi All,
I've been perusing the CSA2 FAQs and looking to try System 6.0.1 out on my GS. problem is - how do I get the downloaded *.SDK files onto an 800k floppy in a state that I can use them to install 6.0.1 onto a partition on my CFFA?
The Stats: - I'm trying to use a clone PC to make disks for my IIgs which has an 800k 3.5" and the usual assortment of 5.25" drives.
Mac Drive looks like a good solution, but will it format 800K Mac Disks that a GS can read under ProDOS 8? Also how would I get the downloaded *.SDK files onto the HFS formatted Mac disks after a format? I.E. what PC software could I use to unshrink an SDK onto a floppy?
Any help, MUCHO appreciated!
:)
Later, Craig

Besides having Bill send you the disks, the process goes like this:
Get or borrow a '90's Mac with a Superdrive 1.44 floppy- Compact Macs such as the Classic, Classic II, SE/30, or Color Classic are nice Apple II accessories that don't take up much space. The Color Classic can even take the IIe Card, making it both a Mac AND an Apple IIe with hard disk and 3.5" drive!
Older Macs such as the early SE, Plus, etc don't have SuperDrives, so they can't read PC 1.44 disks. Later Macs- most Power Macs and later- have trouble writing 800K disks.
Mac OS 7.5 can read PC disks, so you can transfer those files from your PC to the Mac via floppy.
Format 800K floppies as ProDos on the Mac. It's an option when formatting.
Double click those .SDK's and the Mac will copy the disk images to those 800K floppies. -Paul

Not a bad deal though, Mark. I might just grab that. As soon as I have $15, that is. :o)

Shrink II is definitely a good utility to have, but it's not necessary. It's been so long since I first downloaded the GS/OS disks I had forgotten, but they are available in .sea format as well as .sdk format. The .sea archives are the ones you want. They are self-extracting disk images that run on the Mac and create bootable IIgs disks.
I was wrong about the .sdk disks running on the Mac.
The GS/OS disk images and old Mac OS downloads can be found here: http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html -Paul

The simplest and most efficient way is to have someone write the disks and mail them to you, however, my IIgs's are all down for the meantime, and I can do it as soon as I get one up and running. I charge $6.50 for the set and this includes shipping to the USA. More for foreign orders.
: The Stats: - I'm trying to use a clone PC to make disks : for my IIgs which has an 800k 3.5" and the usual assortment : of 5.25" drives.
Nothing on a PC will write these GS/OS disks that can be read on a IIgs.

Again, the IIgs cannot boot an HFS disk. You must have the real Apple IIgs formatted disks. I can do this for you. $6.50 will get them for you. :o)
: Any help, MUCHO appreciated!
I hope this has helped you.

 | Craig,
Oh, and make the MO out to William Garber, and not GarberStreet. The bank won't cash it as GarberStreet. They'll only deposit it. I will have the disks made by the time I receive it.
