Hi Everyone,

I'm fairly sure that my Apple //e (1982) is unenhanced. Is there a poke
that I can do from basic to see if mousechars appear, confirming this fact?

I have a faulty Platinum kicking around. I would expect that the ROMS
are probably still working. Truth is I don't know exactly what is wrong
with it. I've tried all the usual stuff.

Anyway, is it possible to remove ROMS from the Platinum and place them
in a //e to make it enhanced? If so, which ones (ie what will be printed
on the ICs?).

Kindest Regards,

Alistair Ross

Easiest to just do this: CALL -1184
and see whether it says "Apple ][" or "Apple //e" (latter is enhanced).

Moll.

I think you're out of luck there. The Beige //e has two ROM chips, CD
rom and EF rom. The Platinum //e has a single chip called CF rom. They
obviously lowered the component count between the two models.

I have JPEGs of the motherboards for //e Enhanced, //e Platinum, IIgs
ROM01 and IIgs ROM03 (I think courtesy of Wayne Stewart?). It's fun to
overlay the windows and do a blink comparison like the astronomers do.

The Apple //e Enhancement Kits show up on Ebay from time to time. Not
only you get the new ROMS (CD and EF), you also get a 65C02 and an
updated character generator ROM.
