 | Pretty well all that is obvious has been stated about the 1541 & 1571: 1541 mode on the 1571 seems to be perfectly compatible with 1541 programmes. The doubled disk capacity is the main c64 advantage of the 1571. Drive numbers can be changed with switches (as they can with the 1541-II).
Of trivial importance: My Warp Drive manual states that 2 sided mode (1571 mode) is at 2 mhz with the WP cartridge. I don't know how to test this.
According to my North American 1571 manual, the ram is 4k, unlike the 1541 2k. I don't know that this has been used. Has anyone tried placing a 2k & 4k programme in the 1571 ram?

I have had early archivers that preserve disk structure rather than files refuse to work with disks in 1571s in 1541 mode.
I am sure that somebody tripped over a commercial game with accelerated loaders that won't load from a 1571 in 1541 mode. There may even be rare circumstances where a program squawks when a load attempt is made from a 1541 - II.

One that gave me trouble with a 1571 in 1541 mode was either Spy vs. Spy, or Spy vs. Spy II.
I don't remember which. But, it worked perfectly fine when run with a 1541-II drive.
Just going by memory. I'm sure there are others though.

Skyfox and some other EA loaders don't like the 1571 either. Later EA loaders are compatible with it.
