I was looking for three WD1772 chips and came across this company in=20 California. They have the chips, but I've never heard of the Atari Ajax=20 IC's. Does anyone have more information on the Ajax?

Weren't the Ajax just WD1772 which were known to work (for a longer period of time) on 100% overclocking, i.e. 16MHz instead of 8MHz?

Ajax is a DD/HD floppy controller upgrade for the Atari ST line of computers. It may work in a 1581, but I don't think you would get any benefit from it.
