Another from my favourite source...

"εἰ μεν ἡ σου γυνη ἠ, το ποτον δ'ἐπιμπλην φαρμακου"

"εἰ μεν ὁ σου 'νηρ ἠ, αὐτον δ'ἐπινον"

An amusing afterthought...
If Xanthippe's husband had a Churchillian streak then the basis for western
philosophy may well be based on at least one falsehood!

Condemned and executed by wife? Rather than a 500 strong jury of ones peers?

"Well, Socrates, are you going to stop wandering about the streets and
wasting idle time with chatter? You know I need the roof fixing, and the
kitchen replacing."
"No. It is my divine mission in life. I must get these Athenians to care
more for their souls".

'Given the choice, m'lud, would it be ok if I downed the stuff now? I shan't
go into voluntary exile, I don't want my friends to petition for banishment
or a fine. I don't even want to wait for the assembly to return from Delos.
Come along, Jeeves, prepare one of your pick-me-ups and let me get outside
it pronto!'

Hello, Socrates. Here I come. I've had enough as well. Let's go talk to
Homer and Hesiod. They'll tell us what it's all about. They knew a thing or
two. These here modern folks don't know nowt. Boom and bust economics (I do,
of course, exclude that best chancellor of the Exchequer ever, Gordon
Brown).
You and me, kid. We'll suss it all out together.
