Hi,

I've been doing a repair job on a PC for a friend. This involved
installing a new hard drive and reinstalling all software. the problem
is the original manufacturer never supplied a driver CD with the
computer meaning I have to locate drivers on the net.

I ran Fresh Diagnose on the computer which tells me the mother board
model is 8363-686A, made by MSI, VIA KT133/A Chipset. I installed the
Via 4 in 1 driver, but I cannot find out what the Graphics, sound and
modem drivers are. The only modem driver I can find on the MSI site are
for Broadcom modems and Win 98 tells me this is incorrect.

The MSI site isn't very helpful when it comes to this motherboard and I
cannot seem to locate any that correspond. Any ideas where I might find
more info?

It's likely the number 8363-686A is not the MSI motherboard number (more
like chip set numbers). I recommend you open the lid and see if you can
find an MSI number printed on the board.

If you do open it you could write down the numbers on all the main chips and
Google for them, you might be able to identify the graphics, sound and modem
chip manufacturers and generic drivers from their sites will usually work.

You could also try some other utilities that might be better able to
identify the motherboard and components (such as Belarc or Sis-Sandra).

Finally, if you're still in trouble you might try the MSI newsgroup:

http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/ is brilliant for
this type of thing. Use it all the time where I work.

That does look very useful Ken, I'll add it to my toolbox and use it the
first chance I get. Pity it doesn't work with NT.
