As you will probably already know, a new form of Icelandic is in the
make. For 12 years I the n=FDyr=F0ask=E1ld Timbur-Helgi (J=F3sef) and a
few enthusiast have been working on what will be the lexically purest
form of Icelandic that is conceivable by the human mind: H=E1fr=F3nska or
High Icelandic. 15% of the Icelandic vocabulary is replaced by
neologistic excesses.
High Icelandic will have the effect of an impacting asteroid. Before
2010 we will have a High Icelandic speaking community of at least 10000
people. The success will be overwhelming.
Without further ado, I will come to the point: Are you willing to
grant official status for H=E1fr=F3nska when it will be launched in
February 2005? High Icelandic is important, because it will fill
aneed. Many purists in Iceland are frustrated because they want their
language pure and their is but one Icelandic to choose from. They will
now have the chance to give rein to their puristic feelings when
H=E1fr=F3nska will be presented to the Icelandic nation in february 2005.
