 | Hi all Over the last few days I have been driving an Isuzu Elf 250 truck and am puzzled by the function / purpose of one switch on the dash.
It appears to be factory fitted, on the right of the dash , with an icon that looks like an engine block with a helix (similar to the preheat indicator) in / over it.
When switched on it is illuminated (green) and appears to affect the engine speed. (Idle speed drops)
If it is left on for about 30 seconds the low air pressure buzzer sounds. The buzzer goes off about 10 seconds after the switch is turned off.
Can anyone tell me what the function of this switch is?
The last truck I had much to do with was a 1970's Ford 5 tonner (when it was new) and Google has not been any help 8-(

The switch sounds like the cold start one. It turns on heaters in the sump, deisel lines, and does all sorts of things to do with recirculating exhaust gases. All designed to heat the engine quicker in very cold weather. Deisels hate to be worked when cold. Only needed if you are starting the engine in near freezing conditions. The weather has been cold but probably not that cold. If you leave it on the light will go out after about 5 minutes when it has done its thing.

I had that on my Mu, D is right, it's a sump heater and exhaust gas reticulator and keeps the glow plugs on a little longer. But it does make the truck run like crap if it's not that cold and shouldn't really be driven with it on as the exchaust gas reticulation doesn't provide the irght mixture for working the engine, just warming it up on idle.
Mine always turned over on the first crank following the quick glow plug warm up of about 5 seconds in it. Never ever had to use the warm up switch, although I did use it after being out at -5 all night just to get the engine warmer so the cab heater warmed quicker, as "I" don't like being worked while cold either.
