The Beast - 17185-1 available from SureFire
"The Beast is the most powerful flashlight SureFire has ever produced
for civilian sale. Utilizing a xenon-fill high-intensity discharge (HID)
arc lamp, it puts out 2000 lumens of blinding white light — 120 times
the light output of a typical two D-cell alkaline flashlight. HID lamps
are extremely efficient — for an equivalent power input they provide
more than twice the lumens of incandescent lamps. An additional benefit:
they have no filament to break or burn out so they should never need
replacing. "

Burnsco is selling a rechargeable 500,000 candlepower spotlight for
$49 - http://www.burnscomarine.com/brochure/Page%2014.pdf

One candlepower = 12.57 lumens, so it's 39,000 lumens.

OK, so maybe it uses a filament bulb, but how many spare bulbs would
you get for the price??

Cheers
Jon

Maybe not comparing apple with apples. Light intensity can be
increased by focusing light into a beam. The narrower the beam the
higher the intensisty. eg most lasers are very low power but because
they radiate in a very narrrow beam they appear very bright. This is
however not a true measure of the total light radiated by a device.

The true comparison (and probably only correct one) would be to
compare them when radiating in all directions at once. Advertisers
always stretch the facts to make their product sound better.

Bruce.

No it's been going well. The manual says that it can be recharged about
35 times.
Then I'll have a look at what kind of batteries it has.

I got one of those ($12 at super cheap auto) - it fully charged it runs
for about 10 minutes (calculating from the drain of the bulb and the
capacity of the sealed lead acid battery it should do 90 minutes) - oh
well, I got what I paid for (more inorganic garbage).

The public is largely being sold a crock with these devices which are on
shelves in all types of retail outlets these days. They are generally
equipped with Sealed Lead Acid batteries which if left discharged for
extended periods are permanently damaged - just like a car battery.

So your device could have been sitting for many months in a warehouse -
and it has only a small amount of battery capacity left.
