TRYING TO IMPORT MAIL

I really love opera!
It's my browser now.

I'd like to use it for mail and news too, so
I could have *ALL* my data in one place.

I tried to import my mail, but it bogged bad before 20,000 emails.
I junked my K6 processor with 128 megs of ram, and went to an
K7 althon 1.2 gigahertz cpu with 256 megs of ram. It's been importing
for about 16 hours now. I'm up to 32,000 emails imported, but it's
stalled out. I'm starting to think Opera just isn't capable of handling
a large database. Eudora handles all that mail instantly, but I guess
they don't have it all in one big file. I haven't even tried to add my
hundreds of megabytes of news to the opera database.

Am I missing something, or is Opera simply
not capable of handling large databases?

Oh, Opera can "handle" large databases, it's just the importing. That is
to say, if you simply accumulate 100,000+ messages in Opera over time,
it's no problem at all. The hard part of importing is indexing, Opera
tries to index the message by headers and by words that appear in the
text. Since Opera can't import indices (if your old mail client even
created them), only the actual messages, it has to start from scratch and
index everything.
