 | Hi, =
First off, since I'm going to be semi-griping, let me say that I love t= he =
Opera browser, its an amazing piece of software all around.
Some things that I haven't been able to figure out/find:
1. I know there are a ton of commands that you can map to keys in =
Opera's preferences (if you start typing you can see them in the auto =
completion), but is there a comprehensive categorized list somewhere =
online of what they all are? Also, some of the syntax for combining =
commands is not clear to me, is there an explanation of this somewhere, = I =
haven't been able to find it? Specifically: Is there a way to map opening unread mail to a key? Is there a way to map adding a bookmark straight to a folder to a key?=
2. Opera's modular error popus are extremely annoying to me, I would =
rather have an error page, or some other nonmodal indication rather than= =
be rudely interrupted if a window in the background failed to load. Is = =
there an option for this anywhere? One of the most annoying manifestations of this is the email =
checker. I cannot set the mail to automatic lookup because I have a =
laptop and am not always connected. When I don't have a connection, it = =
popsup a notification every 5 minutes telling me that it could not conne= ct =
to the mail server. Then I usually have to re-enter my password in the = =
preferences. Is this fixable? =
3. This is more of a feature request unless I am totally blind, but I = =
open up a ton of windows, and it would immensely useful for me if there = =

This seems to be a *great* idea: 4. I know not everyone is a programmer (the programmers could share = =

I could be blind, maybe this is available), so one could do things like = =
search for a regex on a page, and essentially automate any browsing =
process that is repetitive (for example, open up the first 5 results on = a =
search page, and show me a summary page with only the lines that contain= =
the search terms). It would also be nice if there was a way to wrap som= e =
specific commands around google (ie, "focus on next result link", "open = =
the cache" etc) similarly to http://labs.google.com/keys/ (which is not= =
working anymore). A little of this can be done as a web service, but it= =
would be much more powerful in a browser like Opera, where it could open= =
multiple pages, be bound to a key, interact with the mail and so on. =
Taken to the extreme, Opera this could be an Opera plug-in base (but I'm= =
no expert here). The framework to do this seems to be there. Since we = =

I have a ton more, but I know thats a lot of stuff, (I have been =

http://nontroppo.org/wiki/AllActions is a good place to start.

Sure, though I'll need to look it up. It would be Read mail. They already did that as a button, just have to copy it from there.

Provided your intent is to open all the bookmarks in the folder at once. Assign a nickname to the folder (Right-click, Properties), then assign a command of Go to page, "nickname"

In Opera 8, page errors are displayed in the page. Unfortunately you can't do that with email ... try setting File, Work offline. And if you see one of those error dialogs, press Cancel so as not to erase your password. (Yes, I erased my password more than once before determining that Cancel would prevent that instead of clicking Okay.)

I've requested some legitimate scripting commands myself. Some things can be done using Javascipt (aka scriptlets or bookmarklets), but some things (like looking for a particular open page) can't. (Or editor macros for email.)

There is an opera.wishlist newsgroup, if your questions are like #4 above.

I meant opening the "unread" mail folder (right now I have to open the= =

Thanks for your help.
Also, I forgot the worst problem for me: text wrapping is a bit off. In= =
email or other newsgroup compose windows, about half of the last word on= =
the right is cut off? Maybe this is a font issue though I'm not sure.

Of course non-troppo assembled most of that material, but it is a wiki so anyone can contribute.

You were clear. Just try it. Assign a key to the command "Read mail", you get a mail window showing the Unread folder.

Oh ... sorry, don't think so. They want you to have an opportunity to edit the title (most page titles are huge) and/or description and nickname.

Don't use the Tab key, Opera counts the tab character as one character regardless of how long it is actually displayed. I removed all the tabs from your reply above to be able to read it properly. There also can be font issues, if you have the font set to some bitmapped font (such as Terminal or Courier) rather than a Truetype font (such as Courier New). I used to have that problem in Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 (way back in Windows 3.1).

There's always the menu shortcut : Alt-M-R-U (mail read unread) >>

Good idea. In the meantime, what I tend to do if I have a split like this is sort them into two windows.

Trivial with the Windows panel. Create a new window, drag all the paes you want to that window. No, can't drag multiple selected items, though maybe cut-and-paste would work. Ctrl-click to select ... how about that, drag worked (in Linux 8.0 B1) - I was sure someone said it didn't.

Really? This line from that wiki, "Opera 8.0 has a new core, which has had a major overhaul, and the underlying technology is in fact vastly improved." seems rather specious.
So far, for me Opera 8 has crashed so much more than Opera 7 as to render it nearly unusable.
It seems like a pre-alpha has been passed off as a beta.

Details about these problems would be helpful so they can be fixed before 8.0 beta becomes 8.0 final.

This is non-sensical. First, both could (and very likely are) true; its = a =
new, vastly improved, but not polished core. Second, it seems you are = =
saying that the wiki is not useful because your Opera 8 _beta_ crashes =
more than the final Opera 7 release (eh?). I don't get it..

Perhaps you have something else amiss. I've been using 8 for a couple of weeks without a single crash...or other problem, for that matter. Yes, there are a few minor bugs, but I've experienced no serious problems.

Hear, hear!
It has been requested numerous times before, but seemingly the Opera developers don't think it's such a great idea.

I'm no javascript expert, but can't this be done with a bookmarklet?

Not really, if you don't count "this is not a priority" as a reason.

BTW, Opera uses the Qt toolkit which provides a scripting framework for applications:

Really, does it? I was concerned Opera used some home-grown UI-toolkit.

Only on Linux and Unix-like systems, so if this was to be supported it would be for those versions only.

I second that! I've figured some stuff out myself, but it was all by trial and error and I have the distinct feeling that there may be handy things possible that I just don't know about!
