 | There is some discussion at my work about making sure that all of their web pages are standards compliant. I'm a mainframe guy, but I'm also a user of Opera and applauding this trend.
What resources do you recommend that I make them aware of in this effort?

Validate, test, debug, repeat:
http://validator.w3.org/ http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ http://w3c.org/QA/Tools/#validators
Of course, I also recommend that they have access to all major browsers and platforms for better testing/support coverage.
Also, make sure they are using an editor that does auto-insert invalid markup. Microsoft Visual Studio and FrontPage are both horrible editors in this regard.
Usability, accessibility, and navigation are also very important. For some tips, see: http://usability.gov/

Big typo here, sorry:
It should've read "that does NOT auto-insert..."

Yes, these are good tools for testing the code for validity.
They are, hopefully, also interested in learning about standards-based web design:

A list apart http://www.alistapart.com/
Or try to sell them on the idea of using Opera as a web development tool: http://my.opera.com/community/dev/web/
