Anybody know if Opera can be installed/works on the Nokia 6260 smarthphone?
It runs Symbian 60 AFAIK.

TIA,
James.

As long as you download the Series 60 edition, it should run fine?

It's Opera 6, by the way. They haven't made Opera 7.5 available to Symbian
users yet.

That's what I assumed, but since the spotty youths at my local phone store
don't even know how to demo the phone I don't fancy buying one only to find
out i'm stuck with WAP2.0. I've tried contacting Opera tech support but no
reply as of yet...

In my experience Carphone Warehouse are the only shop where the staff come
close to being competent. All those independents (though they're usually
branded under the name of one of the networks) are invariably *useless*.
In my opinion, of course :)

I know someone at who manages an Orange shop and he wasn't even aware any
Symbian phones existed yet. As for the till monkeys who work with him, I
really think they make it all up on the spot and just say 'yes' if they
don't know. Staff turnover is high and many of them apply for jobs at PC
World so make of that what you will.

I remember when the 9210 came out and I asked what he thought of it. He
said they had them in stock but no one had actually used one yet because
they were waiting for head office to "send someone down and train us". I
asked if it ever occured to him to just... kind of... you know... have a
go of the demo machine and see how it went. Sadly it hadn't and he
preferred to wait for professional training (which was 3 months later).
And this was a branch Hans Snook used to go into for accessories. It's
probably similar reasons that mean they can't demo you the 6260 properly,
and they're too thick to realise it's the same as all the other Series 60
devices they already know how to use.

Well.. not wanting to be rude, I'll just hope Opera's Symbian/EPOC support
has come a long way since the Psion days ;)

It was phones4u, FYI.
The manager was *slightly* better informed than his 'colleagues'; though
even he couldn't demo the phone properly because their 'demo SIM cards don't
actually connect to a network'. D'oh. Its a bit like saying 'you can take
this car for a test drive, but there's no petrol in it and we're not going
to let you have any either'. You think 2nd hand car salesmen are bad? These
guys aren't even that good...
