 | This has been already discussed, but not solved.
We *need* a way to import mail messages in such a way that they will appear in the "Sent" pseudo-folder of the chosen account, with no need of additional filters. As far as I can tell, this is currently not possible, and it's a very annoying lack of feature.

It is possible, but only for one particular mail program. Eudora. (Don't ask me, I just record all this stuff to help other users.) Some people have found a copy of Eudora, imported their mail from the current mail client to that, and then imported their Eudora mail to Opera as a workaround.

Really? That's weird... What version of Opera?
I'm using Opera 7.54 on linux now and the "Import from Eudora" option is grayed-out, and anyway, import is broken in this version, it leads to a shameful crash.
As far as I can recall, the same happens in the Opera 8 beta (the graying-out, not the crash). Assuming I can somehow import Eudora mails from Opera, should these mail come from some specific folder in Eudora? or can I choose which mails go where anyway?
Nevertheless, I hope this feature is added to O8 (or whatever) final.

AFAIK Eudora is sold for Windows and Mac and might not run under Linux.

To Import from Eudora go to Tools - Preferences - E-mail and click on "Manage Accounts". Next select "New" and the "New account wizard" gives a variety of choices including that of "Import Email". Highlight "Import Email" then click next and all the accounts in Eudora are displayed.
As many of the accounts as you wish can be imported and Opera will set them up exactly as they were setup in Eudora.
Eudora can be downloaded from http://www.eudora.com/ for free. After installation Eudora offers 3 choices of Modes in which Eudora can be run and only Paid mode requires payment and a Registration key needs to be entered. -- Ted

Oops, I should have said first go to Tools - Preferences - Programs and paths and tick the box "Enable mail and chat" otherwise all the email options are grayed out. -- Ted

It should work for all supported e-mail clients, but not mbox at this time.

I have tried with Netscape 6/7 and I don't see the option.
Can anyone suggest a workflow to import mails as "Sent" from a mbx/mbs file to Opera (preferably under linux)?
In windows, I have couldn't get Eudora (last version) to import mails, nor Outlook Express. I downloaded the last Netscape and managed to import mails, moved them to "Sent" folder and tried to import them from Opera... they appeared as "Received". Trying to import the Netscape mails in other programs was also unsuccessful.

I reported this as bug 161540 - does not import Eudora sent messages.
