 | With the group's indulgence, I return to a topic I broached a while
back and on which I appreciate the many valuable contributions of
colleagues here.
I recently assumed arms (USA), which can be seen at
hee.jpg>.
I'm in the process of recording them with the New England Historic
Genealogical Society on behalf of my great-grandfather and his
descendants, and registering them with the Secretary of the
Commonwealth of Virginia as the insignia of the "Descendants of Daniel
McMillan." The blazon in English is:
Shield: Or a Lion passant Sable armed and langued Gules in chief three
Stars [using the traditional Scottish term] Azure voided Argent and in
base on a Bar wavy Azure a Barrulet wavy Silver. Crest: A dexter Hand
proper brandishing a Creek Indian Atassa (War Club) Gules.
As an exercise in trying to understand better how the conventions of
blazon operate in different languages, I asked before and now ask again
for assistance in blazoning this in different languages. I offer the
following for expert review and correction, acknowledging again my debt
to those who helped me on earlier drafts. As the design is slightly
different than the one I was playing with when last I raised this
issue, I may have made some new mistakes.
French: "D'or au lion l=E9opard=E9 de sable arm=E9 et lampass=E9 de
gueules, surmontant une divise ond=E9e d'azur surcharg=E9 d'une
trangle ond=E9e d'argent, accompagn=E9 en chef de trois =E9toiles
d'azur remplies d'argent. Cimier: Une dextromain [?] de carnation
tenant une atassa (gourdin de guerre) des Indiens Creek de gueules."
German: "In goldenem Schild, =FCber einen zweimal wellengeteilt blaue
und silberne Wellenfaden, ein schwarzer rotbezungter und -bewehrter
schreitender L=F6we, oben drei blaue Sterne, ausgebrochen in silber.
Helmzier: Eine nat=FCrliche Rechthand die ein roter Creek-indianischer
Atassa (Kriegskeule) h=E4lt."
Dutch: "In goud boven een golvende versmalde balk van blauw bedekt met
een golvende versmalde dwarsbalk van zilver, een gaande leeuw van
zwart, getongd en geklauwd van rood, in het schildhoofd beladen met
drie sterren van blauw geledigd van zilver." [Haven't attempted the
crest in Dutch.]
Italian: "Un'arma d'oro con leone illeopardato di nero, armato e
lampassato di rosso, surmontato nel capo da tre stelle d'azzurro
ripiene d'argento, [how to say in base?] una divisa ondata
d'azzurro sopracaricata d'una trangla ondata d'argento." [Haven't
attempted the crest in Italian.]
Portuguese: "Escudo de oro com le=E3o leopardado de negro armado e
lampassado de vermelho acompanhado em chefe de tr=EAs estrelas de azul
carregadas de estrelas de prata e em ponta uma faixeta ondeada de azul
e prata de tr=EAs tiras. Timbre: Uma m=E3o direita de carna=E7=E3o armada
duma atassa (clava da guerra) dos =EDndios Creek de vermelho."
Spanish: "En campo de oro, un le=F3n leopardado de sable, linguado y
armado de gules, surmontando a un ce=F1idor ondado terciado de azur y
plata, y acompa=F1ado en lo alto de tres estrellas de cinco pontas de
azur rellenadas de plata. Cimera: Una mano diestra de carnaci=F3n
empu=F1ando una atassa (garrote de Guerra) de los indios Creek de
gules."
Swedish: "I f=E4lt av guld ett svart g=E5ende lejon med r=F6d bev=E4ring
over en bl=E5 av v=E5gskuror bildad bj=E4lke belagd med en smal av
v=E5gskuror bildad bj=E4lke av silver, och ovan =E5tfj=F6lt av tre bl=E5
femuddiga stj=E4rnor belagd med stj=E4rnor av silver. Hj=E4lmprydnad:
Ett naturf=E4rgad h=F6ger hand h=E5llende en r=F6d Creek-indianska atassa
(stridsklubba)."
