This reminded me of the guy that got himself and his girlfriend killed
because he thought he knew enough about bears to get to close to them.

On National Geographic last night they had a show "Predators" and a
section on hyenas. The were filming a fight over a dead carcass between to
of them. After the Henna's settle down and go to eating, out pops this
guy between the video camera and the hyenas with a still camera not 10'
from them.

One of the comments made during the show here "he has been around them
enough that they accept him". Heck they did not even accept each other and
evidenced by the fight. At least between them selves they are on pretty
even footing. I picture him being the next carcass they are fighting over.

Hi Rick,

Maybe you feel badly, but I don't. 99 times out of 100, they know what
they're getting themselves into. I do feel bad for the surviving family
members, but not for the munchees themselves. These self professed
"experts" know they're putting themselves in potentially dangerous
situations and fully know the consequences.

Hi,

I didn't see the whole show, but did see part of it...

All I can say is we benefit, in the form of fantastic photos and film
footage, from the fact some people seem to have NO common sense and
hardly any more sense of self-preservation! And then we feel badly when
they do get themselves killed. Amazing.

After Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend got themselves et, you'd
think some of these other idiots would wise up. On the other hand,
hyenas have to eat, too, and meat's meat.

I did not see the show that you discussed but I have seen other video clips of
hyenas and your comment on their acceptance of each other, especially over food,
just brought a chuckle.
