 | I've only been juggling for a year, so I haven't had to take as much as some, but I'm already sick of being asked if I'm from the circus, told I have a future in the circus, or having that high circus tune hummed at me mockingly when I'm in public.
I just wish for one day major league baseball or basketball players were forced to put on white face paint and red noses. Then what could people laugh at ME for?
Anyway, Jason Garfield supposedly punches people. I just sort of smile with the knowledge that when they grow up (both senses) they will see how useless whatever THEY were doing at the time (in the most recent case, wrestling) was.
What do other people do/say/would do or say if it was legal?

 | Its not worth getting upset about. No more than Tall people being asked if they play basketball.

How about explaining that juggling as a hobby and as a profession is totally separate from the circus, and that most jugglers are never associated with circuses. Seriously, most people have only ever seen juggling in the circus; it's natural for them to assume that that's the only place it happens.
If people are mocking you then just ignore them. They'll shut up pretty quickly when (if) they see what you can do.

My response: "Done that - been there."
Contrary to many, I find no disrespect when associated with circus, clowns, mime, or street performing. It isn't what you do, it is the quality that you do it.
I have no idea how many times I've heard: "Hey, I once saw a guy in San Francisco do that with chainsaws! You should go there!"
People who comment, either in earnest or in jest, just want to acknowledge your actions. They find you interesting enough to want to interact with you and often will do so in the most obvious of ways for lack of any other ideas. Even if it is meant as an insult, it is usually a playful one.
Really, if it bothers you so much, don't practice in public.

I think the best solution is not to take yourself as seriously as Jason Garfield until you at least become as good as he is. As far as the circus, some of the best jugglers ever have come directly from the circus, why do you think this is so absurd? Juggling knowledge is not part of growing up, you too will always lack knowledge about many things and will annoy people by your lack of understanding as you go through life.

I've been juggling for 3 years and never had this happen but if it ever did I would say something like: "Fuck you dick head!! You wanna hole in your head?!! No? then shut the fuck up!!" or "Yeah..I'm in the circus with your mum!! She juggles my balls on her chin everynight, fucker!!"
Let me know how you get on with these two little gems.

Beautiful..absolutely beautiful!
The only problem with that is the inevitable comeback line:
"...but my mothers dead."
And there is ABSOLUTELY no comeback to that! ( apart from "that's probably why she didn't move much then" but that is horrible and if the above comeback is actually true then it could well get you killed. )

hahahhahah this is great.. well when ppl say their mom is dead, i just point at them and make a mocking "ha ha". anyone who would bring that up deserves to be laughed at. so steve, did u make that one up yourself? i think that's prolly the best line i've ever heard.. lol as for me, when people do this, most of them are just tryin to get a positive reaction out of me and their intentions, i think, are to get a laugh out of me. little do they know, they are not funny. but i fake a laugh as if it was the first time i've heard the association and i pretend to think the person is clever just so there's no bad footing between us. if the person persists or is intentionally being rude, "go to the circus, clown boy" then i tell this person to suck my dick and i call him out to a fight.. they back off without too much trouble.. i just try to look as pissed as possible. :-)

That's pure gold right there.

"because no one liked her in the circus so the audience threw a buncha food and crap and she tripped and died." (??) not that good but it's my best shot ; - )
But I wouldn't suggest responding to it, it could be really offensive if it was true or something *hides laugh*, but yeah, you don't want to mess around with....death- ey....stuff.

I am guessing telling a non-juggler heckler to suck your dick would just make things worse (for you), there are too many freaking homoual people out there nowadays, and someone might just take it too seriously. lol
Well, it wouldn't be *as* bad if you told a girl that and she took it seriously???

Exactly what constitutes "too many" homouals? And do you honestly think that a man will just jump at an invitation to "suck my dick" with such force that you'll be unable to fend him off? I've read this kind of bigoted shite from you before Static, and it's beginning to look like a good long stay in my killfile is the only way to stop you from pissing me off. Get a clue.

Ho ho ho. There really are too many of them, and the main problem with them is that they don't even realise that what they're doing is wrong, sinful, offensive and could (and IMO should) end up being physically dangerous to them. If they want to do it in private then fine, but to bring their nasty "habits" out in public is disgusting. And yes, I'm talking about stupid fuckwits like Static here as opposed to s. Guy

you straight-basher...lol
umm-my personal beliefs are against any ual imorality or non-. immorality would in this case be defined as outside of marriage. marriage here would be defined as between a man and a woman. that being said, i dont have bad feelings towards s-i dont agree with the lifestyle, but thats my conviction and not something i can force on others. in static's defense, im certain he wasnt intending to be offensive, and you may need to lighten up. well im going to get back on subject.
as far as the circus bit, i usually take the softer approach and tell them its not where i intend to go/not my kind of lifestyle, and explain where i intend to go with it. i think i have always had a positive response when using this approach. as for hecklers i dont say anything-i pull of a nice trick and then look at them and smile nicely. this is more entertaining and better for your audience as well.
well im done.
