Please visit the links below to look at the pictures of this knife. I need
it identified and if you could tell me how much it's worth I'd really
appreciate it. I may sell it, also, if the price is right. It's a very old
knife. It's entirely hand made. The sheath is made of leather, with hand-
detailing. I'm not sure what country it's from or who made it. If you can
identify it, please send me an e-mail to g_r_u_n_g_e_turtle@yahoo.com.
Thanks.

So you want someone to price your goods for you and then make an offer as
well?

How do you know?
I thought you didn't know what it is.

And it's kinda gonna be hard to tell from those pics.
Is the pommel aluminum?
Very old aluminum?

Ummm... Excuse me, but this knife came out of an attic where it had been
setting for at least 80+ years.

It is iron or steel. Aluminum doesn't rust, it aspholiates.

Ahh; that's not very old at all.

From the pictures it is hard to tell. My best guess is that it is a
hand-made-in-the-Philippines type. This is just a guess based on the
aluminum pommel, the weird blade contour, the overall size and shape, and
the outlandish fringe embellishments. I would also guess it is somewhat
less than 80 years old based on the aluminum. Remember that prior to
W.W.II, aluminum was far less common than it is today and the piece on the
knife/machete you have is probably a re-worked scrap.
The value is very subjective (assuming the piece is what I think it is).
I have never known anyone to collect these things. There are a lot of them
around. Each one is unique and some of the blade shapes can be quite wild.
Most of the blades are made from worthless scrap metal, the idea being that
the blade is designed to stab and chop rather than cut and the people making
these often have limited skills, even more limited access to materials, and
no money to buy real knife making tools or materials. If I had to put a
number on it, a piece like that would likely retail for about a hundred
bucks. It may be worth more to you as a wall-hanger if you like the looks
of it.
Again, I could be way off. The photos don't show much detail. Either
post some really detailed photos and everything you know or suspect about
the knife, or take it to a knife guy in your area for an honest evaluation.
Keep at it.
Good Luck:)
