 | My Sperdyco Endura with AUS-8 blade has adequate edge holding ability for my purposes and I find it easy to re-sharpen with my Lansky rig. I like the way it remains free of visible rust despite being carried in my pocket in Iowa summers and being used to cut wet shrink wrap at work. As far as I have been able to find so far, AUS-8 is not available in the United States in small quantities for the hobbyist. Is there a steel that is available that has corrosion resistance equal to AUS-8 and equal or better edge holding?
Thank you, Peter Wezeman anti-social Darwinist

 | I believe I read somewhere that AUS-8 is pretty close to 440A as far as performance...
Here's a link to A.G. Russell's site... it's their Steel Guide.

Then where ever it was, stop reading it.

Go ask Google - several threads in recent months on the joys of AUS-8 over lesser steels. 440A is very far beneath it.

 | 440c is more like it, maybe even better. I have a 440c benchmade, and it is a little better than my Cold Steel Voyager (AUS8), but that could be due to differences in hardening and blade shape. But both are definitely better than 440a.
