 | Yep, $1 at St.Mary's Horse-pital auxiliary thrift store. Couldn't pass up carbon steel knife for a buck. ;)

Planning to re-heat treat the spear blade, not sure if I'm going to change the shape to a clip blade or not.
As far as I can tell, this dangged thing is 1095... http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/InternationalHarvester.jpg http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/Colonial-IH-1.jpg http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/Colonial-IH-2.jpg http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/Colonial-IH-3.jpg (they are ready for heat treating!:)
Planning to make a cattle knife from it in a "shadow knife style". :) Not sure the double spring is thick enough to fit the two little blades in there... might have to make a new spring for it and space the little blades at either end with what I call a "dutchman".
Funny thing about Colonial's blades, some are hard as anything and worth having (no kidding:) and others, like this spear blade are too soft (might as well be stainless;).
"can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"
I've always figured someone could make a nice "sow's ear purse" from a sow's ear tho if they wanted to. What more could someone (as easily entertained as I am) want anyway? :)
