when it rains it pours. i have come across yet another 1992 Marble's
Trailmaker. now i'm going to have to sell the one i bought yesterday (i had
a post last night about it) to pay for this one.
here's the description:
"Mint, 1992 Trailmaker Bowie, 10' blade, 15" overall, all stag handle, only
200 made in 1992, near mint in box. Ricasso marked Marble's U.S.A on front,
on back marked M.S.A. 1992. The knife has never been inserted into the
sheath! It is near mint because there are several pin point discolored spots
on the blade. The box states that the blade is made from high carbon steel
and is hammer forged, not rolled or stamped and benchmade by hand. Half
brass hilt, 1/2" brass pommel nut, brass pins secure the Awesome, 4"
diameter stag handle. This bowie is gigantic! The sheath is thick, top grain
cowhide. The knife comes with the paper blade protector and box which has
some shelf wear. Cutlers cove noted that In 1997 this knife booked for
$350.00. They said only 200 of these full stag handle Trailmakers were
produced."
any ideas about its true value today?
does anyone know if it's true about only 200 being produced?
the owner says he thinks the "several pinpoint discolorations" comes from
the blade being stored in the cardboard wrapper marbles packs in. he is
guessing the paper is not "acid free" and the discoloration can be buffed
out or otherwise safely removed. any ideas about this?
i'm a little freaked about what i paid for it. oh well.
