Last week I had to fly out of town. Short class for work
and I did not take a knife. At home, I ALWAYS have a
pocket knife. First day out of town, went to Kmart and
got a knife. Made in China - cost $6. End of class & I
gave it away before flying back home.
Comment and question: It was a nice small knife !!!
A lot like my Old Timer model 340. So how is Schrade
going to make a come back if Kmart can sell the same
knife for half the cost ?

Well, Leatherman has no trouble making profit - in spite of K-Mart selling a
bunch of ChiCom clones of various multitools at very-low prices. In fact,
Leatherman still sells at least enough at K-Marts for K-Mart to keep their
multitools out on the rack.
You make better stuff - even if in the "details" - and you'll sell yours
with the ChiCom stuff right next to it. Ever notice that Russian SKSs sell at
$375 when the same gun shop has ChiCom ones for $130? It's because the fit and
finish details of the Russian ones are so much better.

Because there are still some people that know the difference between
1095 and 420J2 Crap.

Rifle scopes come to mind everytime. ;)

Weaver tried to compete with Tasco. Weaver lost.
Leopold strived for even higher quality than before.

Weaver's patents are still with us and some think they are the best
thing ever and wouldn't want a rifle scope without them, Leopold is
a leader in scope production and even exports the hell out of them
still.

BTW, your "middle man" Old Timer is a 34-ot. ;)
(this comes up ever few months since the first few months of r.k)
(I did the same thing back in the 80's;)

Just drilled the center pin out of a 34ot and took it apart, want
to see some pictures? :) I have three of them apart now. They are
easier to take apart than to put back together for some reason. ;)

Schrade isn't going to make a comeback. Quote:

"On October 26, 2004 the assets of Imperial Schrade were sold at a public
auction. The Intellectual Property (IP) was sold to Taylor Brands LLC. By
purchasing the IP, Taylor Brands LLC now owns the right to market Imperial
Schrade's products under the various registered trademarks"

Most of Taylor is made in China
