So... I finally watched Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn

Holy crap! Was that a great film. Praying that maybe lightning does
strike twice, I tried Evil Dead III: Army of Darkness.

BZZZZZZZZT. Wrong. Thanks for playing.

So, powerful and wise RMA, what are some other classic zombie / horror
/ sci fi movies? Something up to the standards of Evil Dead II ?

"Wild Zero". Crazy Zombie movie. The Evil dead series was great.

Yeah, good choice there too. Sort of the Ramones go to Japan, fight
zombies and help the young guy get the girl.

On the same topic of Japanese zombie movies, go rent "Versus". Gun-fu
zombies!

That's a cracker. Loved those two characters who suddenly appear
unannounced halfway through the movie, their *only* purpose being to bring
a huge hand-held anti-tank gun of some sort to the fray. This movie has
everything in it, kung-foolery, wire work, over-the-top gunplay, Yakuza,
zombies, samurai warriors, ghosts, and even science fiction.

Don't piss on good plot development, Karim. I've often thought that
the introduction of two nutters carrying an AT gun into certain
business meetings would improve the day significantly.

There is suppose to be a second one in the works.

It would certainly have improved "The Bridges of Madison County".

And Beaches. And anything with Merryl Streep in it.

I have Evil Dead 3 on DVD. One of the best movies ever IMHO. I also have
the remake of Dawn of the Dead, the original Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the
Dead and a few others. I love zombie films. Give me a buzz next week and
I'll hook you up.

Shaun of the Dead.

Hey, when you gonna hit the mat with Fraser and me? And you gonna watch us
eat some Yellow Bamboo on the 30th?

On the topic of zombies...

Oh, I'm playtesting "All Flesh Must Be Eaten". Been running a game
for a while but just got into the playtest.

2nd that one.

I enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead remake.

28 Day Later, while not technically zombies, is very good.

Might want to go old school with "Zombie" by Fulci too.

Seconded. They *are* zombies really, though :-) Takes the title for
'fastest-moving zombies ever' as well. And all filmed in digital, so lots
of interesting effects.

I'm a big fan of the old B-movie dubbed ones. Anything by Lucio Fulci,
but mainly his classic, 'Zombie Flesh Eaters'. Sequel's not too shabby
either.

On the 'comedy zombie' sub-genre, you're an Antipode, so I guess you've
seen 'Braindead'? And 'Shaun of the Dead' is most excellent.

The Evil Dead movies were all funny. It's just that the slant of the
humor changed as the series evolved. I must admit that III is my
favorite. It's the classic one-liners that did it for me.

I will admit that I spent *HOURS* in the library pouring over old Latin
and Greek, etc. dictionaries trying to find the translation for "Klatu
Baradda Necto!" See, I just *KNEW* that I'd heard it somewhere and
that there was something more to it. I was absolutely certain that it
was some sort of "famous" quote. But I just *couldn't* come up with
it. Drove me nuts, I'm tell'n ya! Until one day a week or so later I
guess, as I was hacking some code in the campus comp. lab, the missing
part of the phrase fell outa the sky and rattled into my brain.
"Gort!" The phrase was "Gort! Klatu Baradda Necto!" I'd
wasted hours searching through dead language dictionaries for a phrase
from a made up language invented for a classic 50's Sci-Fi movie and
stolen as an Easter Egg for a comic heavy zombie movie. :P

Me too. I positively *love* the one-liners. "Boomstick!" "Good,
Bad..." "Gimme some sugar baby!" etc.
