How bizarre... I just read this the other day:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/19/television.carson.reut/

We didn't have a TV for most of my younger years, but I definitely saw
enough of him to say that I agree- we'll miss him.

I think the way he handled himself after retiring shows him to be a real
class act.

Never met him. But it feels as though I've lost a friend.

Always felt cheated when he retired and totally disappeared.
But it was his life to do with what he pleased.
He was more than entitled to his seclusion.
No one will ever approach his magic.
He has been missed
He will be missed.

.... i can remember as a kid (yes, not even a teen yet)
sitting in my bed with my miniature b/w tv and watching
Johnny. i'd seen him a time or two when my parents would
let me stay up to watch him. i got hooked. i was supposed
to be asleep by then, but i made it a point to be up to
watch him (on the nights when i was able to stay up).

this habit carried on until his last show. he will be
sorely missed!!!!!!!

Johnny's passing marks the end of an era, an era many of us grew up
in. While we mourn his death we should be reminded of our own
mortality and squeeze every drop of humour and enjoyment out of our
lives as he did his.

You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck

I'll tell you what, Don: the folks around me sure do get a fair bit of humor
watching my attempts to squeeze every bit of enjoyment out of my life as I can!
