What cruise lines permit top-free sunning? I'm not looking for an
all-nude cruise, just wanting to know which lines or which ships
permit top-free (European?) or full-body tanning whilst on board.

It would also be nice to know which lines discourage meerkats,
gawkers, and the like.

None of them seem to say if they do or don't permit it. Thanks for any
help or experience anyone has had.

Amanda,

The Carnival cruises have decks for topless sunbathing, I know of some
nude cruises too, but they allow nudity for the majority of the trip as
opposed to just having a deck or two for nude sunbathing. I don't know
of any that have decks for nude sunbathing, but where you have to be
clothed the rest of the time. Carnival has topless decks, but they
don't allow for nudity.

Cruise lines have their private islands too. It keeps the docking
fees down to take their passengers there instead of to the tourist
ports... And they're fun too of course. There is usually a nude or
c/o beach on these islands. That's a really nice way to spend the
day... :-)

I'd seen that advertised: all day on our private island. But which
ones have a nude or c/o beach? (Disney Cruise Lines is NOT an option!)
I haven't seen anyone (except some of the Caribbean resorts) say that
they have a nude or c/o beach on their private islands.

The info on Carnival is very helpful and I thank everyone for their
pool of knowledge!

Norwegian Cruise Lines is the one I've been too...

I'm sure there are others... Travel agents and the cruise lines
themselves can tell you. In fact if they don't have one and you ask
for one, they'll probably set one up., eh? At least sooner than
later...

Unless you go on a full nude cruise, I don't think what you're looking for
can be found, except by prior arrangement.

Most all of Carnival ships allow topless sunbathing. The reason I know is
that I am booked on a cruise for 4/3/05 and I contacted the cruise lines
today and asked if my ship has a topless deck. I was told yes. Our ship is
the new Valor that was just put into the water on 12/15/04

Hope this helps

That helps a great deal. I'm trying to do this w/o involving a travel
agent for a number of reasons, but certainly avoiding having to ask
"Does this ship allow top-free sunning and/or swimming?" is a good
reason to avoid a travel agent. Yeah, yeah, I know, I ought to be bold
and unashamed, but I'm still a girl from the country at heart.

The topless sunbathing deck has been a staple of Carnival Lines for a
long time now

It was in existance when the wife and I went on our honeymoon back in
1990 on the 'Celebration'

Hey..., I had to ask for rubbers from the women at the drug counters
when I was younger... Nothing to it. Just call one where you aren't
known and won't be using for the trip. Be nonchalant and ask
for the large/// Oh..... Skip that...

Just be nonchalant and put it to them as a challenge. Ask them if
people will get all upset if you went top-free on the boat. That
makes it sound like you're looking down on *them* and it catches them
off guard... Ha! They start fighting back defensively by explaining
that they have a whole nude deck or whatever... That there is a nude
beach on their island.... etc. :-)

I also remember the famous apocryphal story of the boy about to go
out for the first time on a date with a young woman whose favors were
said to be freely dispensed. He went to the chemist first for some
prophylactics - got a dozen, I think - and when he went to the young
woman's house to pick her up, whom should her father turn out to be
but the chemist from whom the young man had purchased said
prophylactics. Hmmm ...

Hi Amanda,

For a fully nude cruise experience that is wonderful beyond imagination go
to Bare Necessities.

http://www.bare-necessities.com/cruises.html

or try the folks at Castaways Travel.

http://castawaystravel.com/

Both of these travel agencies are naturist friendly and very used to the
questions you might want to have answered.

If you speak German or French you can have a wonderful cruise on the Cruise
Ship AIDA, is a modern 1200-berth cruise liner belonging to the P&O Group.
The ship caters mainly for the German market and operates from Palma,
Majorca (Mediterranean) in the summer and from Santa Domingo in the
Dominican Republic (Caribbean) in the winter. It has a naturist deck (FKK)
reserved for nude sunbathing at the stern on deck 10, on the port side.

Celebrity Cruise lines offer topless decks near or on the top deck. It can
be bit daunting as it is sometimes located on the deck with the walking
track going by.

Carnival Cruise Lines also has a topless deck.

I hope you enjoy your vacation!

David
