I own a Sony DCR TRV-950 which I purchased new on December 28, 2002. The
camera has been used probably less than 6 hours in the two years that I have
owned it (I still have 2 unused tape cassettes out of 6 purchased with the
camera).
A couple of days ago, I removed the camera from its case, noticed there was
a tape in it, I viewed about two minutes to identify what was on it, and
then removed the tape.
The camera then went dead. The only sign of life is the blue network light
comes on for about 5 seconds whenever I install the battery or plug it into
the ac adapter.
I have tried:
Different batteries, even after substantial recharging.
Manual resetting the camera by removing the battery and the ac adapter, and
the turn on the camera to the vcr mode and to the play mode.
Pushing the auto reset button near the vcr controls.
Installing the battery and leaving it connected to the ac adapter for
several hours.
Nothing I do seems to change its behavior; the blue network light still
comes on about 5 seconds after installing the battery and after connecting
to the ac adapter, nothing else.
I researched the Sony's support sight and have found it to be pretty much
worthless. It basically says, does it work?, if not send it to us with $269
and we'll fix it.
I feel the problem has to be minor in that it was working perfectly before,
and just shut off. Perhaps the internal battery needs replacing?
So, can any of you help me? Who would you recommend that I send it to for
repairs?
