While there is absolutely a place for speculations and estimations as to what
advanced nanotechnology can do, I want to say this: Sci.Nanotech should now be
concentrating on ways to implement molecular manufacturing systems.

Anyone out there with ideas, whether you're a phD or a high school student,
please start discussion threads regarding any possible ways, routes, methods,
and techniques to get from here to there, from current biotechnologies and
scanning probe microscope systems, and supramolecular chemistry, and computer
manufacturing, or whatever else, to more and more advanced MNT systems.

I will start out the thread with this: In Nanosystems K E Drexler greatly lays
out some of the ideas by which we could make MOLECULAR TIPS for AFMs. What are
the current problems and challenges in doing this?

How can AFM/STM/SPM tips be made that are Molecularly Reactive enough to pick
and place molecular groups and atoms, while also being able to release these
groups, and atoms, when needed?

Should this be done in a solution phase system, or. should some vacuum system
of some sort be used?
